Another big achievement recorded in the name of ‘High Flyer’.
The leadership of the Indian Men’s and Women’s Kabaddi teams has been recognized with sporting honors by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. Captain of Indian women’s Kabaddi team will also get Arjuna Award
It was an emotional comeback to clinch the medal in the continental event, having lost the final in the 2018 Asian Games. Ritu Negi has had success with the women’s team in the last few years securing a silver in the Jakarta Asian Games and the 2019 Kathmandu South Asian Games. The icing on the cake was when the Indian women’s Kabaddi team, under his leadership, won the gold medal by defeating a strong team like Chinese Taipei in a close match in the Hangzhou Games.
India won the gold medal under the captaincy of Pawan Sehrawat
Pawan Sehrawat made a stunning recovery from the injury to lead from the front and seek revenge in the finals against Iran. The match was not short of controversy as the game was halted for an hour due a confusion in the rules. But the skipper kept his cool to ensure India got their gold medal back. It was the second gold medal for the 27-year-old in 2023 having won the Gold Medal at Asian Kabaddi Championship 2023, Busan.
Indian team coach will receive Dronocharya Award
The coach of the Indian team, Edachery Bhaskaran was honored with the Dronocharya Award for his contribution in coaching multiple teams at various levels. Pawan and his boys had amazing talent in their squad and it was a problem of plenty. Bhaskaran guided the team with strategies that helped them stand on the top of the podium.
The winners will receive the Arjuna Award, the second-highest sporting honor in India, and the Dronocharya Award on the 9th of January 2024. The Honorable President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu will honor the winners at the ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi.
