Exclusive: Pardeep Narwal on relationship with UP Yoddhas' coach, missing Asian Games and more

‘Dubki King’ Pardeep Narwal has set a big target for this season.
During the 10th season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 10), UP Yoddhas has performed well so far. UP Yoddhas has won two out of three matches and is now looking for a third consecutive victory. The good news for UP is that all their players are in form, not just relying on Pardeep Narwal. In the last match against Telugu Titans, Surender Gill contributed significantly with 14 points, making a crucial contribution to the team’s victory. In addition, Nitesh Kumar also achieved a high five in defense, and Sumit earned four points. This shows that UP’s team is now completely united.
Pardeep Narwal, during an exclusive interview with Khel Now, reacted to several things, including not being selected for the Asian Games.
Efforts will be made to reach the final
UP Yoddhas is the only team in PKL that has made it to the playoffs every season. Although the team cannot go beyond that, Pardeep Narwal believes that this time the team will try to reach the final. He said, “If we reach the playoffs this season, the effort will be to play in the final and not just be eliminated in the playoffs.”
My eyes are set on 1700 raid points
Speaking of Pardeep Narwal, he is the most successful raider in PKL history. So far, he has earned close to 1600 points, and he aims to surpass the 1700-point milestone this season. Pardeep Narwal said, “So far, I have over 1500 points overall, and my goal is to achieve the milestone of 1700 points this season.”
Partnership with Surender Gill
In addition to Pardeep Narwal, UP Yoddhas’ team includes Surender Gill and Vijay Malik. The partnership of Pardeep and Surender Gill is quite impressive. Both have performed well in raiding, and Pardeep Narwal is also greatly influenced by it. He said, “The partnership with Surender Gill is quite good. He is a very good raider, and the third raider who has come into the team is also excellent. If all three of us play together, we will surely win.”
Coordination with Jasveer Singh
For UP Yoddhas, Jasveer Singh has been coaching for the past few seasons, and the team has performed well under his coaching. Many players under Jasveer Singh’s leadership have excelled, and Pardeep Narwal is also quite happy with the coach. He said, “He is like a guru, and there is a lot to learn from him. He teaches excellent skills.”
Hopes of being selected for the Asian Games
Pardeep Narwal is one of the stalwart raiders in the world of kabaddi. However, when the Indian team was announced for the Asian Games, Pardeep Narwal was not selected. He was not chosen due to his form. Regarding this, Pardeep Narwal said, “I was hopeful of getting a chance to play in the Asian Games. Maybe something was lacking in me, and that’s why I was not selected. Now I will try to be selected for the World Cup team.”
No pressure of captaincy
Pardeep Narwal is leading UP Yoddhas during the 10th season of PKL, and the team is performing well under his captaincy. Although he has a dual responsibility now, he doesn’t feel pressured. He said, “I am not taking any pressure on my captaincy. If the team plays together, we will win.”
