Vibhor Vineet Jain elected as President of Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India
Five Vice-Presidents are also appointed.
After a four-year hiatus, the elections of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India were conducted and Vibhor Vineet Jain has been elected as the new president. It wasn’t an easy journey after the successful first round of elections in early 2019 with the second round scheduled to be conducted by September 2019. But, the Delhi High Court imposed a stay for the elections citing illegal nominations.
District and state kabaddi associations have to follow the age and tenure requirements to be recognized and affiliated with the AKFI, according to a ruling made in February 2023. When the Electoral College was announced in May 2023, the High Court once more halted the election’s notice, declaring that thirteen of the nominations were invalid. The state association nominated the supporter, regardless of their age or other pertinent factors.
Following the court’s request for a response by July 24th, AKFI sent notices to every state association. All state associations announced their revised slate of nominations following deliberation and additional appeals. As of December 9th, 28 associations had released their two nominees, according to the press release.
Finally, the elections happened as per schedule to elect 21 members from different associations in the country. The president will have five vice-presidents and a General Secretary which will be held by Vidarbha’s Jitendra Pransingh Thakur. While Rama Kant Singh will take up the responsibility of Treasury. The team will be completed by five Joint Secretaries and eight Executive Members of the board.
