UP Yoddhas finally won a match after 8 consecutive losses.

Some ultimate defending by Sumit was complemented by raiders Gagana Gowda and Mahipal as the U.P. Yoddhas secured an impressive and important 38-23 victory over U Mumba in PKL 10 match 102 at the Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. U Mumba’s multiple changes throughout the match did not do much to help the team out, despite Shivam’s five points from off the bench but the U.P. Yoddhas get an important lifeline in the race for the playoffs.

The match tilted on either side as the defenders reigned supreme at the start. The U.P. Yoddhas and the U Mumba raiders were unsuccessful in their respective DO OR DIE RAIDS early in the match, with U Mumba even sending star raider Pardeep Narwal off the mat to earn SUPER TACKLE points of their own.

U Mumba’s coach Gholamreza alongside stand-in captain Mahender and UP Yoddhas captain Pardeep Narwal alongside the assistant coach attended the Press Conference to summarise the game.

The chances of making it to the playoffs are very low – Gholamreza

U Mumba coach Gulamreza said, “Several of our main players have been injured, and now Guman Singh is also injured. Young players are consistently making mistakes, so the chances of us reaching the playoffs are now very minimal.”

The pressure on the defense increased due to a lack of points in the raiding – Mahendra Singh.

Mahendra Singh, who captained U Mumba in the match, said, “There was pressure on us, and winning this match was crucial for us in some way or another. The coach had motivated us that this match would decide whether we advance or not. Our team showed a struggle also because the lead raider Guman Singh got injured. Our plan was to play with control in the raiding, but the pressure on the defense increased due to a lack of points.”

Reason behind early substitution

UP Yoddhas’ captain, Pardeep Narwal, was substituted early in the match. Speaking about this, he said, ‘We know that our team does not have any chance to qualify for the playoffs, so we wanted to give the young guns the opportunity to showcase their skills.’
