PKL 10: List of all award winners of Pro Kabaddi League 10
The award winners received a hefty amount of money from the prize pool of 8 crores.
After 137 games across 91 days among 10 teams, it was the men in orange Puneri Paltan who came victorious beating Haryana Steelers in a closely fought PKL 10 final. Pankaj Mohite’s four-point super raid changed the complexion of the game near half-time as the Paltans kept the momentum from it like they have done all season to take home the trophy.
It was the season of many highlights starting from the return of the caravan format which has made fans all over the country enjoy Kabaddi action. The players were fantastic in every aspect of the game and some of them are rightfully recognized as season winners.
Most Valuable Player – Aslam Inamdar, Puneri Paltan
Many raised their eyebrows when Aslam Inamdar was appointed as the captain of the Puneri Paltan. It was a huge shoe of Fazel Atrachali that the all-rounder was asked to fill and he came out all guns blazing right from the start. He was the team’s primary raider with 142 points and adding to the tally of 26 Tackle points, he made the biggest impact for them.
It was his fearlessness that he carried onto the mat and it rubbed off the shoulders of his players as they played the final without any signs of nervousness. His partnership with Mohammadreza Chiyanneh would probably be the most talked about pair in the years to come of PKL and he was been deservingly named as the most valuable player of the season.
Raider of the Season – Ashu Malik, Dabang Delhi KC
Had a list been created of the probable to win the Raider of the Season award before the outset of the competition, Ashu Malik’s name would not have appeared on it. Even during the Dabang Delhi games, the experts were discussing Naveen Kumar when one man was gradually but surely making an impression. However, Naveen Kumar’s unlucky shoulder injury during the Chennai leg turned the spotlight towards Ashu.
Ashu has topped the season’s Raiding statistics with 276 Raid points. Beyond that figure, Ashu’s record of the most successful Raids of 228 has demonstrated his strength and ability to consistently attack the opposition’s defense groups. He carried the burden of the Raiding responsibilities of Delhi single-handedly and rightfully took home the Raider of the Season award.
Defender of the Season – Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyanneh
Records are meant to be broken, but in addition to doing so, Mohammadreza Chiyaneh is setting a new Everest, one that would require another Himalayan effort to surpass. In just three seasons, the Iranian has established himself as one of the best defenders of all time in PKL history. In his debut season, he won the defender of the season while in season nine he missed out to Ankush in a closely-fought race.
This season, he continued from where he left and the 30-year-old gave Pune the most versatile defense. Every Raider who steps onto the mat is at risk because of his position in the left corner. He became the fastest player to reach 250 tackle points and this season he amassed a whopping 99 tackle points and was given the Defender of the Season award for the second time in his three-year PKL career.
New Young Player Award – Yogesh Dahiya, Dabang Delhi KC
The coach of Dabang Delhi KC, Rambir Singh Khokhar, boldly declared during the preseason that Yogesh, the team’s new defender, will be ranked in the top three defenders in the league. The 20-year-old lived up to his coach’s expectations as he finished third in the list of most tackle points with 74 points.
Yogesh is a right-corner defender who has demonstrated potential at the junior level. This year is his first PKL season, and playing for an esteemed franchise like Dabang Delhi KC, he performed at the senior level like a fish to water. Not many would disagree with the fact that Yogesh has been adjudged the new young player of the Season.
