PKL: Top five coaches with most wins in Pro Kabaddi League history

Manpreet Singh is the first coach in PKL history to achieve 100 wins.

In a fast-paced league like the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), where defenders are unwavering and raiders soar, coaches are another group of people who have a significant impact on the futures of their teams.

Coaches are the masterminds behind the strategies, the mentors who shape champions, and the architects of some of the league’s most memorable victories. While many coaching legends have emerged in the PKL, only a few have reached the top of the win charts.

It is the ideal time to honour the top five coaches in PKL history based on their total wins, especially in light of the recent achievement of Manpreet Singh, the head coach of the Haryana Steelers, who became the first to reach the historic 100-win milestone. Let’s take a look at the top five coaches with the most wins in PKL history.

5. Sanjeev Baliyan (83 Wins)

Sanjeev Baliyan’s coaching career reflects his simple yet effective leadership. He won two PKL championships, the first as coach of the Patna Pirates in Season 3 and the second with the Jaipur Pink Panthers in Season 9.

Baliyan’s coaching philosophy focuses on maintaining a strong balance between a team’s raiding and defensive units. Sanjeev Baliyan has developed many players, including Arjun Deshwal.

During his time as a coach for U Mumba, he worked with a young Deshwal and believed in his abilities, despite an injury. This early confidence and support from Baliyan helped shape Deshwal’s career.

Baliyan has a talent for assembling cohesive teams that can handle pressure and deliver in critical moments. His ability to lead various teams to titles demonstrates his tactical knowledge and calm attitude under pressure.

He is coaching the Tamil Thalaivas for PKL Season 12, a team that needs his help to resurrect and find its winning formula.

4. Ram Mehar Singh (85 Wins)

Ram Mehar Singh is a renowned figure in the world of Pro Kabaddi, known for his strategic acumen and inspiring leadership. He is best known for his successful stints with the Patna Pirates, where he led them to the PKL championship in Season 5.

He also served as an assistant coach for the team’s first championship win. His winning ways extended to the Gujarat Giants, whom he led to the playoffs in Season 10. However, for PKL Season 12, Ram Mehar is not associated with any team.

He has a great track record of developing players. He is best known for developing young talents and transforming them into stars. The most notable example is Pardeep Narwal, also known as the “Dubki King”, who thrived at the Patna Pirates under Singh’s leadership.

Singh gave Narwal the freedom and confidence to express his aggressive raiding style, resulting in him becoming one of the league’s most successful raiders.

3. B.C Ramesh (87 Wins)

B.C. Ramesh is a proven winner who has led multiple teams to championship success. He is a two-time PKL champion, first as an assistant coach for the Bengaluru Bulls in Season 6 and then as head coach for the Bengal Warriorz in Season 7.

He continued to win by leading Puneri Paltan to their first title in Season 10. Ramesh has returned as head coach of the Bengaluru Bulls, where he is orchestrating a remarkable turnaround.

Ramesh is known for his tactical brilliance and ability to tailor his strategies to the strengths of his players, making him one of the league’s most versatile and effective coaches.

2. Randhir Sehrawat (96 Wins)

For more than a decade, Randhir Sehrawat was the Bengaluru Bulls‘ unwavering leader. As the longest-serving coach for a single franchise, he established a track record of consistency and success.

Coach Randhir led the Bengaluru Bulls to their first PKL title in Season 6 and guided the team to six playoff appearances. Known for his keen eye for talent, he was instrumental in the development of players such as Pawan Sehrawat and Bharat Hooda, as well as the consistent production of formidable raiding units.

His long career with the Bulls cemented his place as one of the sport’s most respected figures. He is not the coach of any team in Season 12.

1. Manpreet Singh (100 Wins)

Manpreet Singh’s rise to the top of the win chart is the story of a player turned visionary coach. After winning a title as captain of the Patna Pirates in Season 3, he began a coaching career marked by his ability to build formidable teams from the ground up.

He led the newly formed Gujarat Giants to back-to-back finals in Seasons 5 and 6 and, most recently, the Haryana Steelers to their first PKL title.

His coaching philosophy is founded on a deep belief in young, unproven talent, which he has developed into superstars. Manpreet is also known for his aggressive coaching style on the sidelines, where he constantly motivates his players with enthusiasm and unwavering encouragement.

These five coaches have not only achieved impressive win totals, but they have also left an indelible mark on the Pro Kabaddi League, influencing the careers of countless players and the strategies that define the modern game. Their success demonstrates the critical role of leadership and vision in the world of professional Kabaddi.
