Indian men's & women's teams emerge victorious on Day 1 of Asian Beach Kabaddi 2026

Asian Beach Kabaddi 2026 will run from April 23 to 27.

India have come into the Asian Beach Kabaddi 2026 in Sanya, China, with unfinished business, and they have absolutely wasted no time making that statement crystal clear.

The Indian men’s and women’s beach kabaddi teams put up a stellar performance at Haiye Square on the morning of April 23, further strengthening their hopes of winning a gold medal at the prestigious quadrennial event.

The Indian men’s team, drawn in Group B, had put Chinese Taipei in trouble with their very first raid in Match 2. India’s raiding clicked, and they held their defence throughout the match. The final score had read 66–23, and it had never been that close, even in the early stages. India will now face Thailand on April 24, followed by Sri Lanka on April 25.

In Group B, Sri Lanka defeated Thailand 43-29 to earn their first points of the tournament. Over in Group A, Iran had done enough to beat Pakistan 38–28 in Match 1. Pakistan had pushed hard in patches, but Iran had the quality to see it through.

Bangladesh defeated the Syrian Arab Republic badly in Group A. The final score had read 54–23, and it had never been close.

Indian women’s team thrashed Sri Lanka in Group A

The atmosphere of the women’s match was completely different. In Group A, Sri Lanka came with a plan and kept India in an uncomfortable position for long stretches of the match.

India maintained the lead throughout the match, but Sri Lanka kept trying and reduced the gap several times in the second half. India had shown real character to hold firm and had closed it out 44–32. The Indian women’s team will now face the Syrian Arab Republic on April 24.

Bangladesh had produced the shock of the morning session in the women’s draw. Thailand had gone in as the team expected to win that match and had started reasonably well. However, Bangladesh completely turned the tables; they took control midway through the match and never gave away a chance.

The final score was 51-34 in favour of Bangladesh, leaving Group B wide open ahead of the next round of matches. Another match in the same group saw Nepal defeat Chinese Taipei 48-32.
