Patna Pirates appoint Jasveer Singh as new head coach for PKL 13

Jasveer Singh had previously coached UP Yoddhas in PKL.

The Patna Pirates remained in the news throughout the Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 (PKL 12). They were at the bottom of the table after their first 13 games. They needed to win all their remaining matches to qualify for the knockouts, and the chances of that happening were very low.

But not only did they win five games in a row to qualify for the top 8, but they also registered three consecutive wins in the knockouts before being eliminated by the Telugu Titans in Eliminator 3.

Their season was one to be remembered, as they made a statement that no matter what the situation is, you can always bounce back. They continued to remain in the news even after the season as they released their head coach, Anup Kumar, and later Randeep Dalal, who had led them to the playoffs.

Now, they have signed Jasveer Singh as the new head coach of the team ahead of PKL 13.

Patna Pirates’ history of changing coaches

The Patna Pirates have qualified for the playoffs in all of their last three seasons but failed to win the trophy, and one of the main reasons behind it is the frequent change in management and coaching staff every year.

The team had released Narender Redhu from the head coach position after the Season 11 final. They then appointed Anup Kumar as their head coach for Season 12, but after a few games, when the team performed poorly, it was announced that he had gone home due to personal reasons.

After that, the team’s defence coach, Randeep Dalal, took charge, and under his leadership, the team made a comeback and qualified for the playoffs. After the season ended, Patna made a shocking decision by releasing both Anup Kumar and Randeep Dalal ahead of the next season.

The team has now appointed Jasveer Singh as their head coach for the upcoming season.

Jasveer Singh’s experience as the head coach

Jasveer brings extensive experience, having coached UP Yoddhas from Season 6 to Season 12. Under his guidance, the team reached the playoffs in five out of seven seasons.

The team was consistent, and he was known for maintaining the core of the squad, which may help Patna since they have been unstable in the past few seasons and have released many players.

Jasveer resigned as UP Yoddhas coach after a disappointing performance in Season 12. He expressed disappointment at not winning the trophy despite reaching the playoffs consecutively. He would now like to start afresh and aim for the trophy as the head coach of Patna Pirates.
