PKL 11: 3 key players of Bengal Warriorz in Pro Kabaddi League season 11
The outfit has worked towards finding a good mix of attacking and defensive players.
Before the start of Pro Kabaddi League Season 11, Bengal Warriorz have only one thing on their mind and that is to win the PKL title for the second time. The outfit won season seven of the prestigious competition but has yet to add a second title to the record ever since.
Now, ahead of the 11th season of the PKL, the team’s chances of lifting the trophy look promising. They have moved ambitiously in the auction and successfully added quality players to the roster. A huge coup for Bengal Warriorz was securing the services of Fazel Atrachali, one of the best defenders to grace the competition.
A quick analysis of the squad suggests that it has a brilliant blend of attacking and defensive players. Having a balanced squad is key to winning the league, which requires sustained effort and consistent performances. Bengal Warriorz is a strong contender to challenge for the Pro Kabaddi League title considering the talent at the disposal of head coach Prashant Surve who will be under immense pressure to deliver success.
As the 11th season of the Pro Kabaddi League approaches, here’s a look at the three key players that could play major roles for the Bengal Warriorz in their quest to become champions:
Nitesh Kumar
Nitesh Kumar adds quality and depth to Bengal Warriorz’s defensive department ahead of the 2024-25 PKL season. The defender was acquired in the auction by paying 13 lakhs. He is the only defender to score more than 100 points in a single season of the competition.
Nitesh Kumar brings experience and depth to the defensive department of the Bengal Warriorz. He scored 38 points for the UP Yodhhas in season 10 of the league and would hope to improve on that performance with his new employers. With such a figure in defense, it would be hard for any opposition to score points through raids against the season seven champions.
Maninder Singh
Bengal Warriorz are heavily dependent on Maninder Singh who has been a part of the team since 2017. The 34-year-old helped the outfit win the Pro Kabaddi League in season seven but has not been able to guide the side to the crown since. During the previous term, the iconic raider scored 198 points, which was fewer than his tally of 240 points in season nine.
Despite the downward curve in his performance, Maninder Singh possesses the tools to single-handedly win a contest on a given day. With 1442 points in 143 matches, he is the second-highest points scorer in the history of the PKL. His past performances and stature alone can cause fear in opposition ranks.
Fazel Atrachali
Fazel Atrachali is a massive figure who can be the difference maker for Bengal Warriorz in the upcoming season. The defender was bought in the auction for only 50 lakhs. Acquiring the legendary defender’s services and handing him the captaincy shows the level of trust the outfit has in his leadership qualities.
Fazel Atrachali holds the record for scoring the most tackle points (486) in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League. Moreover, he has the second most High 5s (29) and the fifth most Super Tackles (28) in the PKL, making him one of the greats of the competition.
