Aim is to play all matches in PKL 11 says Gujarat Giants' Guman Singh: Exclusive

Gujarat roped Guman Singh for a whopping INR 1.97 crore at PKL 11 auction.

With PKL 11 all set to kick off, under the guidance of coach Ram Mehar Singh, Gujarat Giants is all set to put on a delightful show for their fans in 2024. After having a decent PKL 10, the Gujarat outfit will be eying for their first PKL title in season 11. The right cover, Neeraj Kumar has been named the captain for the upcoming season along with the mega raider, Guman Singh as their vice-captain.

Guman Singh is a new addition to the Gujarat Giants‘ squad. The Giants included Singh in their team with a whopping bid of 1.97 crores and put faith in the swift raider. Singh scored the highest raiding points (163 points) for U Mumba in season 10 and will look to surpass those stats in Pro Kabaddi League season 11. Ahead of PKL 11, Guman took some time amid his preparations, to have an exclusive conversation with Khel Now where he discussed his goals and team’s aims and targets.

Here are some of the excerpts from the interview.

Vice captain’s responsibility

Guman Singh who has been announced as the vice-captain of the team shared his mind on the same and how he intends to shoulder it. “The team has put a lot of faith in me to give me the vice-captain’s position. So it is my responsibility to take everyone forward together. I will try and share my experiences with my team,” said Guman Singh.

“I will look to take care of my juniors wherever they need me, whether it is about the game, I will help them if they commit mistakes, or they have any problem in accommodation or any other problem. I will try to be there for them,” he added.

The feeling of getting bid at 1.97 crores

The Gujarat outfit had already made up their mind to bring Guman Singh into their ranks and that was understandable when they pushed for a whopping 1.97 crores for the raider. “I was ecstatic when Gujarat Giants bid me for such a big price because it is the first time I have gotten such a massive bid and I was the third player in this season to get such a bid,” said Guman.

“There is no such pressure regarding that. Our coach has already spoken to me about it and he said that I must not take any pressure of being an expensive bid, I should play my natural game and keep my focus on it and just give my best,” he added.

The history with the coach and the captain

Guman Singh and Neeraj Kumar are already familiar with each other. The duo have played together for Patna Pirates in 2021. Speaking on the same Guman said, “I am feeling very good because I had a great bonding with coach ‘and Neeraj from our days in the Patna camp. We know each other pretty well. Our coach is working on my weaknesses and improving it. He has focused and helped me work on my fitness and has improved my fitness immensely and now we are slowly working on my skills.”

Thoughts on injury issue in season 10

Speaking on his injury that highly impacted U Mumba’s title hopes in PKL 10, Guman Singh revealed that he is now completely fit and raring to go. “It wasn’t a big injury or anything. I had just a niggle on my knee but I am fit now and have no injury at all. My coach has worked on my fitness closely, so I am sure I will put out a great show this season,” said Guman.

Target for season 11

Vice-captain Guman Singh is all ready for the PKL 11. Speaking on his goal, Guman revealed that he is targeting over 200 points for the 11th edition of India’s premier kabaddi league. “The target is to play all matches, stay fit and whenever the team needs me, I can score points. And one of the targets is to score 200+ points in this season,” said Guman.

Speaking on the team, Guman added, “We have a very strong raiding unit and our defence is similarly strong. Neeraj, Sombir, Himanshu, Nabibaksh, and Jitender did a brilliant job in the Nationals. We have good players in all positions, both our defence and offense are good. “

A message for fans

Guman Singh ended the interaction with a wholesome message for the fans. “I will keep it simple. I will play my natural game and the people who watch me, I hope they keep supporting me. I will do well,” he concluded.
