PKL 11: Haryana Steelers removed Mohit Nandal from their squad, big reason revealed

In a shocking turn of events, season 10 finalists Haryana Steelers have released their former captain Mohit Nandal from the squad for the upcoming season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 11). According to sources close to the player, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) asked him to submit his medical reports earlier due to a major head surgery he underwent six years ago.

The source also confirmed that he has submitted all the necessary medical reports. However, NADA has raised some concerns over his medications. While an official statement is yet to be released, the franchise was aware of the situation. Haryana Steelers had retained the right cover defender before the auction, based on his three excellent seasons with them. The PKL management is now awaiting the green light from NADA.

But considering the unfortunate turn of events, the franchise must have been notified as his name was not mentioned on the PKL website. The fact that despite having a strong defense and a purse of 2.32cr, the Steelers spent 2.07cr to buy Mohammadreza Shadloui to strengthen their defense. It raised many eyebrows as they were expected to spend money on raiders.

Although Haryana coach Manpreet Singh didn’t mention anything about Mohit, he emphasized a lot on building a strong defense. The uncertainty about Mohit could also be a reason, as he played a crucial role in the Steelers’ progress to the finals last season. The right-cover defender was named co-captain along with his cover counterpart Jaideep Dahiya for season 10.

With 70 tackle points in 24 games, he was one of the lynchpins of the season. His seven-point game against Fazel Atrachali’s Gujarat Giants helped them win the eliminator. Despite defense being his forte, he had tried his hand in raiding for the team. The season 10 saw him maintain a 100% not-out percentage including a super raid. It is a huge blow for last year’s finalist and they would be hoping for a quick turnaround.
