Tamil Thalaivas announces new head coach and veteran addition to coaching staff ahead of PKL 11

The franchise has removed Ashan Kumar and appointed a new coach.

Before the 11th season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 11), the Tamil Thalaivas have made a major decision. The franchise has announced their new head coach. In addition, the team has appointed a strategy coach this time. The Thalaivas have reappointed J. Uday Kumar as the head coach, while PKL veteran Dharmaraj Cheralathan has been appointed as the strategy coach.

Uday Kumar had previously coached the Tamil Thalaivas but took a break during the 9th season due to personal reasons. He has also been the coach of the Indian team before. After Uday Kumar left the Thalaivas, Ashan Kumar was appointed as the coach. Ashan Kumar took over the coaching of the Thalaivas mid-season and led the team to the semi-finals for the first time. Under Ashan Kumar’s leadership, the Tamil Thalaivas made history. However, during the 10th season, the team could not replicate this achievement.

Disappointment in PKL 10 for Tamil Thalaivas

During the 10th season of PKL, the Tamil Thalaivas won only 9 out of 22 matches and faced defeat in 10 matches. The team finished in 9th place in the points table and did not qualify for the playoffs. Perhaps this is why Ashan Kumar was removed and J. Uday Kumar was reappointed as the coach.

As for Dharmaraj Cheralathan, he will be seen as a strategy coach in PKL for the first time. Cheralathan has experience playing for various teams in PKL. He played as a player for the first 9 seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League. Interestingly, Cheralathan has never played for the Tamil Thalaivas in his PKL career, but now he has become their coach. His experience playing for different teams can be very beneficial for the team.
