The Pro Kabaddi 2024 (PKL 11) has witnessed a refreshing change. Historically, raiders have stolen the spotlight, but this season, defenders are proving their mettle and making their presence felt. Week 5 was no different, with several defenders showcasing exceptional performances that left even the best raiders struggling.
The fifth week of PKL 11 showed how important the role defenders play in the match. Nitish Kumar, Saurabh Nandal, Shankar Gadai, Mohammadreza Shadlaoui, and Nitin Rawal all put in exceptional performances that not only benefited their teams but also thrilled Kabaddi fans.

5. Nitesh Kumar (Tamil Thalaivas)
Although the star-studded Tamil Thalaivas have struggled this season, Nitesh Kumar has been a standout performer in defence. Currently ranked fourth in total tackle points in PKL 11, Nitesh continues to leave his mark. In Week 5, he delivered a stellar performance, scoring nine points across two PKL 11 matches, including one high-five. His consistency has earned him a spot in the top five defenders of the week.
4. Saurabh Nandal (Bengaluru Bulls)
Despite Bengaluru Bulls enduring a tough season and languishing at the bottom of the PKL 11 table, their defence has shown some promise. Right-corner specialist Saurabh Nandal displayed resilience in week 5, securing nine points. While his overall performance this season has been modest, his efforts during this critical week earned him a place among the week’s best defenders.
3. Shankar Gadai (Telugu Titans)
Telugu Titans have transformed their fortunes this season, rising to second place in the PKL 11 points table after several disappointing campaigns. A major contributor to their success has been Shankar Gadai, who delivered a fantastic performance in defence during week 5. He scored 11 points, proving to be a vital asset for his team as they continue their remarkable run.
2. Mohammadreza Shadloui (Haryana Steelers)
Haryana Steelers’ Mohammadreza Shadloui continues to impress with his all-round abilities. Contributing both in defence and raiding, Shadloui has accumulated 42 tackle points in 11 matches of PKL 11, ranking third overall. Despite one challenging match, he excelled during Week 5, adding 11 tackle points to his tally and helping Haryana maintain their strong position in the league.
1. Nitin Rawal (Bengaluru Bulls)
Amidst a season of struggles for the Bengaluru Bulls, Nitin Rawal has emerged as their biggest star. He was a lone warrior in Week 5, scoring a staggering 21 tackle points despite his team’s losses. His remarkable consistency has made him the leading tackle point scorer this season, with 47 points in 13 matches of PKL 11. Rawal’s dominance in defence has been a bright spot for the Bulls, making him the best defender of the week.
