The UP Yoddhas are one of the three teams who will get to play at home in the league stage.

The UP Yoddhas will take on neighbours Dabang Delhi K.C. in their first match of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 11 (PKL 11), on October 21 in Hyderabad.

The Pro Kabaddi League is being held in a cluster caravan format this time, with only three cities namely Hyderabad, Noida and Pune hosting the league stage matches. Each day consists of a double header, with only two rest days across the duration of the league stage.

After playing Naveen Kumar’s side, the team will play Pardeep Narwal’s Bengaluru Bulls the next day. The team plays a total of seven matches in Hyderabad, concluding with a clash against the Jaipur Pink Panthers on November 5, before they go to their home city Noida.

The UP Yoddhas will start the second leg on November 10, against U Mumba. They will have a total of seven fixtures at home, which includes a meeting with Puneri Paltan on November 19. Their last match of the second leg is on November 28, again ending the leg with a clash against the Pink Panthers.

The Uttar Pradesh based franchisee begins their third and final leg in Pune on December 4, against the Telugu Titans. They play their reverse fixture against the Dabang Delhi the next day, followed by a date with the home team two days later. Playing a total of eight matches in the city in Western India, they will play the Bengaluru Bulls on December 24, marking an end to their league stage journey.

Like a number of other teams, half of the team’s matches begin at 8:00 PM, while the remaining eleven matches constitute the second match of the double header on the respective days.

Each team will play a total of 22 matches. The top two teams will qualify for the semifinals directly, while the next four teams will play the Eliminators to decide the remaining two semifinalists.

The UP Yoddhas are an embodiment of consistency having reached the playoffs in every edition from season 5 (their debut season) to season 9. However, they finally had the law of averages catching up, as they finished eleventh in the table with a meagre total of 31 points. They could only secure four wins in twenty-two matches.

They took a number of tough calls before the auction and released the most prolific raider in the league’s history, Pardeep Narwal, along with the likes of Nitesh Kumar (the only defender with 100+ tackle points in a season) and Gurdeep.

Bharat Hooda, who had finished with the second highest number of raid points in season 9, was the biggest signing at the auction table for the Yoddhas. He and Surender Gill will get the lion’s share of raids, and will have support from the likes of Bhavani Rajput and Heidarali Ekrami.

Left corner Sumit Sangwan will lead the defence. Ashu Singh, in the right cover position, has been retained from the previous season. The two new big buys in defence are right corner Sahul Kumar and left cover Mahender Singh.

The UP Yoddhas have a well-balanced side and will be looking to not only qualify for the playoffs again, but also reach their first ever PKL final.
