PKL 12: Bengaluru Bulls coach BC Ramesh explains new tiebreaker rule's importance

Bulls and Puneri were tied at 32-32 before the Season 10 champions prevailed 6-4 in the tie-breaker.

The second match of the Pro Kabaddi League 12 (PKL 12) unfolded a lot of drama. For the first time, a league stage match went to a tie-breaker, and Puneri Paltan made no mistake in getting the better of the Bengaluru Bulls. It was an action-packed game with both teams giving their best.

Bengaluru Bulls enjoyed the lead for the majority of the game before Puneri Paltan pulled things back in their favour. The Bulls again found themselves ahead in the tie during the final moments, but Puneri Paltan restored parity in the final minute.

The tie breaker was a roller coaster ride, and then Aslam Inamdar and Vishal Bharadwaj turned the game in Pune’s favour with their heroics.

After the second match of PKL 12, Bengaluru Bulls’ head coach BC Ramesh and skipper Ankush Rathee, along with Puneri Paltan’s head coach Ajay Thakur and captain Aslam Inamdar, addressed the media.

BC Ramesh’s thoughts on the new tie-breaker rule

Bengaluru Bulls head coach BC Ramesh praised the tiebreaker rule. He said that it will now make the game even more interesting for the spectators.

He said, “The tie breaker rule is good because it’s a system where whoever wins gets the points and the losing team doesn’t, and that’s the best thing. There’s no fun or kick for supporters in a draw. Even the supporters are now getting thrilled. It is very beneficial for Kabaddi. It gives us the feeling of playing in a knockout game, plus now we will try even more to win and not face the tiebreaker.”

Ankush Rathee’s thoughts on the game

Ankush Rathee also expressed his thoughts on the match and mentioned the turning point that cost his side the game.

He said, “It was a good game and it went on until the very end. We played well, but need to improve our mistakes. I think the jersey pulling on Puneri Paltan’s raider was the turning point; otherwise, we would have won the game.”

Ajay Thakur’s feelings after the game

Puneri Paltan head coach Ajay Thakur opened up about his thoughts after winning his first-ever game as a head coach.

He said, “Whenever we win the first game, there’s a lot of happiness. But it was very tough to play the tiebreaker. Our team has taught all the other teams how to play in the tiebreaker (laughs). It was a good game and I’m happy that the players approached the tiebreaker with maturity and made up for the mistakes that they had made during the game.”

Aslam Inamdar on the importance of the first win

The Puneri Paltan captain shared his thoughts about the significance of the win. He said that his players had faith in themselves that they could win the game.

“Winning is important. When the game came down to the final moments, we were confident that we would win. We had faith in ourselves, and we were talking among ourselves. My players listen to everything that I say and accept the situation,” he concluded.
