PKL 12: Have Patna Pirates & Anup Kumar parted ways mid-season? Know here

Patna Pirates have had a dismal run so far in PKL 12.

Patna Pirates will lock horns with UP Yoddhas in match 68 of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 (PKL 12) on Monday, October 6, at the SDAT multi-purpose Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

Patna Pirates are languishing at the bottom of the standings with four points from nine encounters, including two wins and seven losses. They have a score difference of -27, thus far in the ongoing edition of the Pro Kabaddi League.

Their only victories this season came against Puneri Paltan (48-37) in the Vizag leg and Dabang Delhi (33-30) in the Jaipur leg. PKL’s most successful franchise, Patna Pirates, began their Chennai leg with a 37-28 loss against the Telugu Titans.

After the match against UP Yoddhas today, the Patna-based franchise will take on hosts Tamil Thalaivas on Tuesday, October 7, in their last Chennai leg fixture, before flying to Delhi.

With the league stage nearing its conclusion, fans are confused whether Anup Kumar is still the head coach of Patna Pirates or not.

Is Anup Kumar still with Patna Pirates?

According to rumours, Patna Pirates and head coach Anup Kumar have parted ways midway through PKL Season 12. However, neither the team nor Anup has confirmed this yet.

This uncertainty comes at a time when the Pirates have been on a poor run, with only two wins so far and languishing at the bottom of the table.

Interestingly, Anup Kumar was seen travelling with the team to Chennai, as shown in a travel vlog shared by the franchise on social media. However, he was notably absent from the dugout during Patna’s clash against Telugu Titans on Tuesday, September 30, at the SDAT Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

Adding to the speculation, the Pirates had appointed Randeep Dalal as their new defence coach last month. Randeep, alongside assistant coach Prashant Rai, was seen handling the team in their previous game, further fuelling talk of a potential change in the coaching setup.

While there has been no official statement from the franchise, the developments have left fans questioning whether the three-time champions have indeed parted ways with one of Kabaddi’s most iconic figures midway through a turbulent season.
