The twelfth edition of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is less than a month away. The PKL returns for its latest edition with a lot of surprises and drama.
Teams have assembled their strongest squads for the upcoming edition and will be gearing up for the first matchweek. The league’s most successful outfit and three-time champions, the Patna Pirates, have raised a lot of eyebrows.
The record champions let go of their star raider Devank Dalal from last season, but are determined to add the fourth trophy to their cabinet.
They have been highly consistent and have made it past the group stage eight times in eleven seasons. But it remains to be seen if they have what it takes to go the distance.

Tried and tested raiding unit
Patna Pirates have retained their core raiders while adding a few important reinforcements. They certainly made the most unexpected move ahead of PKL 12 by letting go of their main man and last season’s highest scorer, Devank Dalal.
They have roped in the services of the highly experienced Maninder Singh for the upcoming season. Maninder is one of the finest raiders that the league has ever witnessed.
Ayan Lohchab is another fantastic retention for the Pirates. The youngster formed a core partnership with Devank upfront last season and gave an extraordinary account of himself.
Sudhakar M has also been retained from last season, and he also knows what it’s like to play for the Pirates. His chemistry with Ayan will come in very handy for his side.
Rock-solid backline
Anup Kumar’s side will come into the latest edition of the PKL with one of the strongest defensive units across the league. The Pirates bolster a rock-solid defence line, which will come in very handy if they want to go the distance.
Ankit Jaglan has been retained and will be expected to lead the backline. The all-rounder was Patna’s star defensive performer last season and racked up 79 tackle points.
Deepak Singh has also extended his stay with the Pirates and will be one of the players to watch out for in the backline. Singh was robust last season at the right cover position and accumulated 64 tackle points in the process.
Sanket Sawant has also been brought in to keep things tight at the back, and the Pirates have also landed Sombir Gulia, who is expected to get a starting role.
