PKL 12: What will be Tamil Thalaivas' starting 7 in Pro Kabaddi 2025?

Tamil Thalaivas will look for redemption in PKL 12.

Tamil Thalaivas will once again be stepping into another Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season with huge hopes. It has been the story of the side based out of Tamil Nadu, which is known as the birthplace of kabaddi.

But in the six seasons they have played, the men in yellow have made it to the playoffs only once. Ironically, it was the season when they roped in Pawan Sehrawat in 2022. The Thalaivas’ fans would be happy to see the return of the Hi-Flyer, who is eager to prove a point.

The player-coach combination of Arjun Deshwal and Sanjeev Baliyan might be new for the Thalaivas, but they are one of the most successful combos in the history of the league.

Apart from these new purchases in the auction, they have retained their young core. Let’s look at the probable starting seven for the Thalaivas in PKL 12.

While teams expect to have one superstar raider, Tamil Thalaivas have three of them in their squad. Having retained Narender Kandola, they snapped up Pawan Sehrawat for just 59.50 lakhs in the auction. The price tag is nowhere close to the quality of Pawan, who has promised that he will be at his fittest this season.

Arjun Deshwal will be the leader of the attack, as the ‘Raid Machine’ has scored the most points in the last four seasons of PKL.

All-rounder Moein Shafaghi will join forces as well, having made an impressive debut in PKL last year with Thalaivas. While they have a few New Young Players in the squad, the above-mentioned four could get the job done on most occasions.

Defenders need to step up

The defenders will decide the fate of Thalaivas this season. The corners look settled with Sagar Rathee and Nitesh Kumar. While the former has been rock-solid since season eight, the latter was one of the finds of the tournament last year. They will again be the key to the team’s chances in PKL 12.

The worry is about the cover defenders, which has no big names, and Assistant coach D Suresh Kumar said that Pawan Sehrawat could take up the role at the start of the season.

Aashish at left cover started the season last year, and the squad has the likes of Ronak, Anuj Gawde, and Tarun, who need to step up big time. It will be interesting to see the strategy of the men in yellow.

Tamil Thalaivas predicted starting seven for PKL 12:

Raiders: Arjun Deshwal, Narendar Kandola, and Moein Safaghi

Defenders: Sagar Rathee, Nitesh Kumar, and Aashish

All-Rounders: Pawan Sehrawat

When does PKL 12 start?

PKL 12 will begin on August 29, 2025, returning to its traditional August-October window after five years.

Who are the defending champions of PKL?

Haryana Steelers are the defending champions of PKL. They defeated the Patna Pirates to lift their maiden title in Season 11.

Where did Tamil Thalaivas finish last season in PKL?

Tamil Thalaivas ended PKL 11 in 9th place, with 8 wins and 13 losses across 22 matches.
