PKL 12: U Mumba names replacement for NYP Sunny Sheokand; All you need to know
Former Dabang Delhi star will now play as a replacement player for U Mumba in PKL 12.
The 12th edition of the Pro Kabaddi League is scheduled to commence on August 29, with 12 franchises in contention for the coveted trophy. U Mumba won their only title during the second edition, having defeated Bengaluru Bulls in the PKL 2015 summit clash.
Ahead of the upcoming season, U Mumba released NYP Sunny Sheokand. Now they have announced their replacement. Mumba have named Vijay Kumar Redhu as the replacement for Sunny. Left cover, Sunny was roped by the Mumbai-based franchise ahead of PKL 11 but didn’t play a single match last season.
The 22-year-old Sunny has played two seasons in the Yuva Kabaddi Series (YKS). He was initially part of Murthal Magnets in YKS Winter Edition 2023, before playing for Yuva Mumba in the first edition of the Yuva All Stars Championships 2025 in Haridwar.
Overall, the Indian defender has had a forgettable run in the competition with just 10 points from 13 matches across both editions. The former champions, U Mumba, would have released the player owing to his poor performance, as he couldn’t live up to the club’s expectations.

Who is Vijay Kumar Redhu?
Vijay Kumar Redhu hails from Pai, Haryana, and replaces Sunny Sheokand in the U Mumba squad for PKL 12. He made his PKL debut in Season 9 with Dabang Delhi and served the club for a couple of seasons.
The left corner earned 19 tackle points from 18 matches in his debut season with the former PKL champions. In the PKL season 10, Vijay made an appearance for the Delhi-based franchise. He didn’t find any takers in the PKL 11 and PKL 12 player auction, but will mark his return to the league as a replacement player with the season 2 winners.
After a decent outing last season, U Mumba retained their core players and re-signed their star players Rinku and Parvesh Bhainswal using the FMB card. They have heavily invested in young raiders Aanil Mohan (Rs. 78 lakhs) and Sandeep Kumar (Rs. 49 lakhs) during the PKL 12 player auction on May 31 & June 1.

U Mumba have not announced the captain yet, but Sunil Kumar can be expected to be the captain in PKL 12.
When will PKL 12 start?
Mashal Sports on Wednesday announced that PKL 12 is set to begin on Friday, August 29.
Which cities will host PKL 12?
The venues for PKL 12 have not been announced yet. It is expected that the league will be organized at three to four venues, like the previous season.
