PKL 12: U Mumba release star NYP ahead of Pro Kabaddi 2025

Sunny Sheokand will not be part of the U Mumba squad for PKL 12.
The Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 (PKL 12) is scheduled to commence on August 29, with 12 teams competing for the title. U Mumba won their only PKL trophy in 2015, during the second edition, defeating Bengaluru Bulls in the final. Mumba took a big step ahead of the upcoming season.
U Mumba have released left cover and star NYP Sunny Sheokand ahead of the 12th edition of the league. Sunny was signed as an NYP last season by the Mumbai-based franchise but failed to make an appearance. The former PKL champions are expected to announce the replacement soon.
Who is Sunny Sheokand?
U Mumba roped in Sunny Sheokand as New Young Player (NYP) ahead of PKL 11. He played for Murthal Magnets in the Yuva Kabaddi Series Winter Edition 2023 and finished the season with seven points from 10 matches. The young Indian defender earned six tackle points and one raid point from 28 tackles and four raids, respectively.
The 22-year-old player had a horrific run with Yuva Mumba, the junior team of U Mumba that competed in the inaugural edition of the Yuva All Stars Championship 2025 in Haridwar. Sunny scored only three points in three matches.

How did U Mumba fare in PKL 11?
U Mumba secured a top-6 finish in the previous edition of the Pro Kabaddi League. They bagged the fifth position in the PKL standings with 71 points from 22 matches, including 12 wins, eight losses, and a couple of ties.
The Mumbai-based franchise were knocked out of the tournament, following their 31-23 loss in Eliminator 2 against Patna Pirates.
U Mumba relied on last seasonās core for PKL 12
U Mumba management has decided to back most of the players. While the likes of Sunil Kumar, Ajit Chouhan and Amirmohammad Zafardanesh were retained, Rinku and Parvesh Bhainswal were brought back into their ranks by exercising the FBM (Final Bid Match) Card.
Interestingly, they have shelled out a lot of money on two young raiders: Rs. 78 lakhs for Aanil Mohan and Rs. 49 lakhs for Sandeep Kumar in PKL 12.

All-rounders: Amirmohammad Zafardanesh, Rohit Raghav, Aanil Mohan, Mohammad Ghorbani, Amarjeet.
Who is the captain of the U Mumba in PKL 12?
U Mumba have not announced the captain yet, but Sunil Kumar can be expected to be the captain in PKL 12.
When will PKL 12 start?
Mashal Sports on Wednesday announced that PKL 12 is set to begin on Friday, August 29.
Which cities will host PKL 12?
The venues for PKL 12 have not been announced yet. It is expected that the league will be organized at three to four venues, like the previous season.
