PKL 12: U Mumba appoint new head coach & assistant coach ahead of auction

Anil Chaprana replaces Rakesh Kumar as the new head coach, 5 days before the auction.

U Mumba, the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 2 champions, declared Anil Chaprana the new head coach for season 12 on Monday. They made the announcement through their social media as they quoted, “Mission 2025: Commenced”.

Anil Chaprana had a previous experience of working with U Mumba. He coached the side before Gholamreza Mazandarani replaced him in 2022. Later, he again joined the franchise as an assistant coach in 2024 and has been continuously working closely with the players and staff for quite some time. Besides that, the franchise also welcomed their new assistant coach, Parthiban, for the PKL 12.

In the announcement post, the franchise penned, “Joining him as an Assistant Coach is a highly-respected figure on the domestic circuit, Parthiban, who is known as a technically sound Coach with fantastic communication skills to bring a team unit together.”

U Mumba parted ways with Rakesh Kumar on Sunday

After making an astonishing revelation on Sunday about releasing Rakesh Kumar from the head coach’s position, the fans were not the happiest. However, the CEO of U Mumba, Suhail Chandhok, came forward and responsibly disclosed the message with an explanation and how they envision the team’s future.

While making the announcement, Chandhok stated, “After multiple conversations and with careful consideration towards the time and commitment needed in the immediate future of U Mumba through Pro Kabaddi and the rest of the year, the Team and Head Coach Rakesh Kumar have mutually decided to respectfully part ways.”

The franchise remained very clear with their goals and the vision they work for. After the shocking release, they were quick to get a replacement for the veteran and Arjuna Awardee.
