Aslam Inamdar-led Puneri Paltan holds the top spot at the end of Day 20 of PKL 12.

Puneri Paltan secured yet another crucial win in Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 (PKL 12) by defeating their arch rivals, U Mumba, in the Maharashtra Derby. The Pune-based franchise came out all guns blazing and took the game to U Mumba to clinch an 18-point win in the second game of day 20.

Stuwart Singh was the hero for Ajay Thakur’s side as he accumulated eight points in six raids after coming off the bench. With this win, Pune have jumped back to the top of the points table with 12 points.

After the game, representatives from both teams addressed the media.

Thoughts on the game

Puneri Paltan head coach Ajay Thakur opened up about his thoughts on the game and said, “I like the defense of U Mumba much, especially Sunil, who is their captain. He plays with a great mind, and they did not let their patience drop at all. The biggest plus point of the match was the super tackle done by Rakesh and Aslam.”

“They played well with a good mindset. We had been practicing for a long time and were trying to rectify the small mistakes that we felt we had made. Overall, my team played very well. The most important thing is to play with a cool mind. That’s what worked well for me today,” he added.

Pressure against U Mumba

Thakur also spoke about the pressure that he felt on the sidelines and said, “The pressure was too much. My blood pressure had increased, and I had to take the tablets during the match. The match was filled with tough situations, and this was the most difficult time for the coach.”

“There’s a lot of pressure when you have only two players and the game is standing on the edge. In this, I will not deny at all that there was a lot of pressure, and I felt the most pressure in this match out of all the matches I have played so far,” he added.

Thoughts ahead of the next game

Ajay Thakur expressed his views on the Haryana Steelers ahead of the next game and said, “Haryana are a good team right now, but Naveen Kumar is injured. I will pray to God that he comes back on the mat soon. Tomorrow will also be a good match, because we have patience, and Aslam Inamdar is with us.”

“The biggest thing is that as long as Aslam is in the team, my confidence remains very high. Our team has good raiders. Tomorrow you will get to see an exciting match, because Manpreet Bhai’s show during the game is also worth watching. If you watch it, you will all enjoy it a lot,” he added.

Role of PKL

Aslam Inamdar shared how PKL changed his life and said, “PKL has changed everything in my life. We used to wear torn clothes in school. But today life has changed. Ever since I came to PKL, I have got name, fame, money, and everything.”

“I wanted to make my parents proud, and I am so happy because my mother is here. I think she appeared on the screen, so I won in life for my mother, and it was an important moment in my life. The biggest warrior in life is a mother, and my mother has done a lot of work for me,” he added.

U Mumba 

What went wrong?

U Mumba captain Sunil Kumar shared what went wrong for his side and said, “The match went well in the beginning. But after that, when the super tackles happened, the match went in their favour from then on. That super tackle increased the lead to 8-9 points. They played very well in defence, and the match was lost because of the super tackle.”

Update on Ajit Chouhan’s injury

Sharing an update on Ajit Chouhan, U Mumba’s head coach, Anil Chaprana said, “Yes, he will be visible soon, maybe he will be visible here only. We will try to bring him early.”
