PKL 12: Will Sagar Rathee play tonight against Gujarat Giants?

This is Sagar Rathee’s sixth season with Tamil Thalaivas.

Tamil Thalaivas are all set to take on the Gujarat Giants in their third league stage fixture of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 (PKL 12) at the Vishwanadh Sports Club in Vizag, on Saturday, September 6.

The Chennai-based franchise have two points from a couple of matches, having won and lost a game each. The Thalaiavas began their campaign with a 38-35 victory in the PKL 2025 season opener, before suffering a 36-33 defeat against U Mumba in the fifth match of the league.

Raider Arjun Deshwal was the standout performer for the franchise, bagging 12 points each in both encounters. Skipper Pawan Sehrawat has been providing him the much-needed support, having earned 16 points in two games.

Tamil Thalaivas are heavily reliant on Arjun and Pawan to deliver, as the defenders have not performed as expected. Thalaivas felt the need for Sagar Rathee in the last two matches. Now the question arises whether he will play in the upcoming clash?

Will Sagar Rathee play tonight?

Sagar Rathee is yet to play a match for the Tamil Thalaivas in the ongoing edition of the Pro Kabaddi League. The team’s captain, Pawan Sehrawat, stated that Sagar is match fit, and the management will take a call on when he will play.

“Sagar is fit, but the management will decide when Sagar will play. We want Sagar in the team, but when he will play depends on the management,” Pawan said during the post-match press conference after their loss against U Mumba.

With their current right corner, Suresh Jadhav, having failed in both matches, it would be wise for the Thalaivas to play Sagar Rathee during their upcoming clash against the Gujarat Giants on Saturday. However, it is unclear if the 25-year-old would make it to the starting lineup.

Speaking of Suresh, he bagged three tackle points against the Telugu Titans and returned empty-handed after 36 minutes of playtime against PKL Season 2 champions U Mumba.

Sagar was among the elite players retained by Tamil Thalaivas ahead of the PKL 12 player auction. He earned three points from the only match he played in the previous edition of the Pro Kabaddi League. The Indian defender began his PKL career with the Chennai-based club in 2019.
