Brijesh Solanki, who participated in PKL, died tragically.

A heartbreaking incident has shaken the Indian Kabaddi fraternity as Brijesh Solanki, a state-level Kabaddi player, died of rabies on Friday. A depressing video surfacing on social media shows Brijesh suffering from a rabies attack. He was seen behaving differently, squirming in pain and screaming with agony due to the aftereffects before passing away tragically.

In March, he was bitten by a dog in his hometown, Bulandshahr, when he went to rescue a puppy that had fallen into a drain. Brijesh wanted to save the puppy, but in the process, the puppy bit his right hand’s finger. The 22-year-old ignored it as a minor injury and didn’t take any steps for an anti-rabies injection.

Within two months, the infection started to affect his body. He complained of pain in his hand. He conveyed the same to his Kabaddi coach Praveen Kumar, who was quoted as saying, “Brijesh mistook the pain in his arm for a Kabaddi injury. The bite seemed minor, and he didn’t think it was serious, so he didn’t take the vaccine.”

On Thursday last week, Brijesh complained of numbness in his right hand, and by afternoon, it had spread to his entire body. He was quickly taken to Jeevan Jyoti Hospital in Aligarh, where doctors advised them to visit an advanced medical center. They rushed him to a government medical facility, where the symptoms of rabies were diagnosed.

As it was a medical College, the authorities denied admitting him as he had been severely infected and he was incurable at their facility. Shocked by the response, the family reached out to an Ayurvedic Center in Mathura. He showed slight improvement due to herbal treatment, but the damage had already been done as his health deteriorated.

Brijesh’s brother, Sandeep Kumar, complained that the response at government hospitals was disappointing. Delhi’s GTB hospital confirmed that the rabies had worsened to a level that any treatment would be ineffective. The Kabaddi player showed worse effects as he started showing fear of water and withdrawal symptoms, which were recorded in a chilling video.

He was taken back to his village, and he passed away on his way back home. This came as shocking news as the entire Farana village, where he lived, came to bid a final farewell to the Kabaddi player.

The health authorities visited the village, and an investigation highlighted the delay in taking preventive measures after the bite had resulted in the tragic loss of a Kabaddi aspirant.
