Most expensive players of each PKL season auction history

The list does not include players from Season 3 as no auctions took place that year.

The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is one of the most entertaining leagues in India, with kabaddi superstars from around the world taking part in this esteemed competition. PKL brought a positive change in the game of Kabaddi and now every fan is super excited to watch the league every season.

Over the years, we have seen players being bought for a hefty amount in the auction. This feature provides you with every bit of information about the players who were the most expensive in a respective auction to date. Apart from Season 3, where no auction took place. Have a glance at all the seasons with the most expensive picks. Here is the list:

Season 1 (Rakesh Kumar to Patna Pirates for Rs 12.80 lakhs)

Rakesh Kumar, World Cup-winning captain and three-time Asian Games gold medalist, was on every franchise’s list at the PKL 1 auction. Finally, Patna Pirates bought him for ₹12.80 lakhs because of his rich experience. Though he helped the Pirates reach the semi-finals of the league, he couldn’t get his hands on the title.

Rakesh showed exemplary performance during that season, scoring 99 points in 12 matches. He played until 2017 before announcing his retirement from the sport.

Season 2 (Hadi Oshtorak to Telugu Titans for Rs 21.1 lakhs)

PKL 2 saw 14 international players being picked out of the listed 27 players. The most expensive was none other than the Iranian Hadi Oshtorak. Telugu Titans bought for a huge ₹21.1 lakhs. Telugu Titans also bought his compatriot Meraj Sheykh for ₹20.1 lakhs.

However, Hadi couldn’t provide the kind of service that was expected from him, as he could only manage to score seven tackle points in the four games he played. The Titans, too, were eliminated in the semi-finals.

Season 4 (Mohit Chhillar to Bengaluru Bulls for Rs 53 lakhs)

It was the first instance where a PKL player was picked for more than ₹50 lakhs. After having a dream run for U Mumba in the first three seasons, the Bengaluru Bulls bought him in the Season 4 auction.

He did justify his price tag for the Bulls as well, scoring 47 tackle points in 14 matches. Though the Bulls couldn’t reach the knockout rounds, Mohit Chhillar’s performance was a big positive for them in that season.

Season 5 (Nitin Tomar to UP Yoddhas for Rs 93 lakhs)

Nitin Tomar was playing at his best when the auction took place and the price he received was proof of how good his form was at that time. In the end, Nitin was sold to UP Yoddhas for a massive ₹93 lakhs. In return, Tomar gave them 167 raid points in 20 games. He helped his team reach the knockout rounds, but they lost the eliminator.

Season 6 (Monu Goyat to Haryana Steelers for Rs 1.51 crore)

A kabaddi player being sold for this massive amount was big news at that time. Monu Goyat was the first-ever player to make it to the ₹1-crore bracket in the PKL auction. He was bought for ₹1.51 crore by Haryana Steelers.

Though Haryana had a terrible outing in Season 6, Monu didn’t disappoint his team as he notched 160 raid points, keeping his form alive. Monu later moved to UP Yoddha ahead of the seventh season.

Season 7 (Siddharth Desai to Telugu Titans for Rs 1.45 crore)

Siddharth Desai was a star for U Mumba in his debut season with 218 raid points. His remarkable performance forced Telugu to pick him for the next season and once again he justified his price tag of ₹1.45 crore by scoring 217 raid points.

Though it was Telugu’s worst performance, as they finished 11th out of 12, Desai created headlines with his raiding skills. After playing a few games for Telugu in Season 8 as well, the raider was ruled out due to a wrist injury.

Season 8 (Pardeep Narwal to UP Yoddhas for Rs 1.65 crore)

One of the biggest names in the history of PKL, Pardeep Narwal, is a fan-favorite kabaddi player who never fails to entertain with his remarkable skills. UP Yoddhas bought him for a magnificent ₹1.65 crore in the Season 8 auction. Pardeep scored 188 points during the season and helped his side reach the semi-finals.

Though Yoddhas lost the semis to his previous team, Patna Pirates, Pardeep’s performance was a thing to remember for the team. In the upcoming season as well, Pardeep will play for the Yoddha after they retained him via FBM in the PKL 9 auction and retained him in PKL 10.

Season 9 (Pawan Sehrawat to Tamil Thalaivas in 2.26 crore)

Pawan Sehwarat’s hype was there from the beginning, but nobody would have thought that this raider would become the first-ever ₹2-crore man in PKL history. Sehrawat was a showstopper at the auction as he was sold to Tamil Thalaivas for a gigantic amount of ₹2.26 crores.

The inclusion of star raider didn’t go as planned as the franchise would have expected as he got injured in the first match of the season and was ruled out for the remainder of the season. Team released him before the PKL 10 auction.

Season 10 (Pawan Sehrwat to Telugu Titans in 2.63 crore)

High-flying raider Pawan Sehrawat once again became the most expensive player in PKL history during the season 10 auction. He was acquired by Telugu Titans for a substantial amount during the 10th season’s auction, at 2 crores, 60 lakhs, and 50 thousand. Pawan Sehrawat had a base price of 20 lakhs, and Telugu Titans made a direct bid for him at 1 crore. Despite efforts from Bengaluru Bulls, Haryana Steelers, and Tamil Thalaivas, Telugu Titans secured Pawan Sehrawat for more than 2 crores.

Still, the franchise’s fortune didn’t change as they once again finished at the bottom of the table. Pawan was the lone wolf of the team, he didn’t receive any support from the other players of his team.
