These players were solid defensively for their respective sides this season.

The latest season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) recently concluded with Dabang Delhi coming out as the winners. Delhi defeated three-time champions Patna Pirates to win the title for the first time in their history.

Defence plays an important role in kabaddi as the raiders do. The defenders were influential to their respective teams in the pat season as well. One of the times when the defence really comes into the limelight is during a super tackle.

To get the super tackle right is a must for the defence of any team, as not only does it earn them extra points but also saves a team from the brink of being all out.

With the season behind us, we have been looking back at the top performers of the season. Here is a look at the players with the most super tackles in PKL Season 8.

5. Rinku (7)

The U Mumba defender did really well in his first season in the Pro Kabaddi League. Rinku had seven successful super tackles to his name. Along with that, he also contributed a total of 60 tackle points for U Mumba, with an average of 2.73 tackle points per match. His good performances for the U Mumba defence also saw him register four High-Fives throughout the season.

U Mumba however, couldn’t reciprocate their star defender’s performances, as they finished 10th in the league table and thus failed to qualify for the playoffs. Rinku would like to carry on his form from his maiden season into the next one and hopefully qualify for his playoffs.

4. Ashu Singh (7)

This was Ashu Singh’s second season with UP Yoddha and he was a key member of their defence. The defender made seven successful super tackles throughout the season. Apart from that, Ashu Singh also earned 49 tackle points for UP Yoddha, with an average of 2.13 successful tackles per match.  Rinku had one High-Five in Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 and the defender also managed to get four raid points to his name.

UP Yoddha finished third in the league table, managed to qualify for the playoffs and then to the semi-finals. Their run ended in the last four when they lost against Patna Pirates. Despite the result in the semi-finals, Ashu had a decent match, earning the second-most points for his team that night.

3. Sagar (8)

Tamil Thalaivas’ defender Sagar was one of the most improved players of the season. Sagar made eight successful super tackles in the season. Sagar contributed a total of 82 tackle points for his team throughout the season, which is more than three times the total points he earned in the season before that. The defender averaged 3.73 successful tackles per match and also had eight High-Fives in the entire season. He was one of the best defenders of Pro Kabaddi League Season 8.

Tamil Thalaivas’ performances however couldn’t match that of their best defender. The team finished 11th in the points table and ended up 19 points adrift of the playoffs spots.

2. Mahender Singh (8)

Bengaluru Bulls’ cover defender Mahender Singh also had eight successful super tackles against his name in Pro Kabaddi League Season 8. Appearing in his fourth season in Bengaluru colours, Mahender Singh earned 39 tackle points during the season. The defender averaged 1.95 successful tackles per match and also scored two high-fives.

Bengaluru Bulls finished fifth in the league table and managed to qualify for the playoffs. In the last four, they got the better of Gujarat Giants. However, they succumbed in the semi-finals against eventual champions Dabang Delhi.

1. Parvesh Bhainswal (10)

The player with the most number of super tackles in Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 was Gujarat Giants’ Parvesh Bhainswal. Parvesh made 10 successful super tackles throughout the season. The defender also contributed 56 tackle points for the Giants. He averaged 2.43 successful tackles per match and also scored two High-Fives.

Gujarat Giants managed to qualify for the playoffs by finishing fourth in the league table.  Their season ended in the final four, when they lost against the Bengaluru Bulls.
