Puneri Paltan vs U Mumba: All time Head-to-Head record in Pro Kabaddi
The Maharashtra Derby is set to be played out in Pro Kabaddi League on Sunday.
The Puneri Paltan are set to take on U Mumba in the 32nd match of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 11 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The defending champions have played five matches, winning three and losing one in Pro Kabaddi League 11 (PKL 11). The only tie for them this season was incidentally played out in the last match, against the Bengal Warriorz, with the scoreline showing 32-32 after the final whistle. Akash Shinde justified his position in the starting VII with 8 points.
However, the team has continued its philosophy of ‘the whole being greater than the sum of the parts’ with everyone making small contributions, rather than one or two players scoring big.
On the other hand, the Pro Kabaddi League season 2 champions have played four matches, winning two and losing one. After a morale-boosting tie against the Bengal Warriorz, they ended a long drought against two-time champions Jaipur Pink Panthers, winning 39-37.

Their defence has been on fire in the last few matches. While the corners (especially Sombir, who pulled off a few outrageous solo tackles against the Warriorz) have been fiery, the cover duo of Sunil and Parvesh have been solid as ever. In the raiding department, Manjeet is yet to find form. However, Ajit Chavan in his debut Pro Kabaddi League season already has two Super 10s, including a tally of 14 points against the Panthers.
The Puneri Paltan and U Mumba have an interesting record in the Pro Kabaddi League, taking into account all of their previous meetings in PKL history. The Pro Kabaddi League season two champions have won one match more than the defending champions in 22 meetings, which include 3 exciting ties.
The Mumbai-based franchise started off in the first edition of Pro Kabaddi League with a 44-28 victory. This 16-point win is still their biggest-ever victory in the Maharashtra derby. They followed it up with five more victories.
Their neighbours had to wait until Pro Kabaddi League Season 4 to taste success for the first time. In the first meeting between them in season 4, the Paltan secured a 41-19 victory. Interestingly, this win by a margin of 22 points continues to be their biggest one against Mumba.
While U Mumba won the next meeting between them in the same season, the Puneri Paltan were triumphant in all three meetings in the next edition. The two teams played out their first tie (32-32) in season 6, with both teams winning one each in the next two matches.
The season 2 champions emerged victorious in the first of the two Maharashtra Derby matches in the seventh edition, while in the second, the two teams scored 33 points each, playing out a stalemate for the second time. In seasons 8 and 9, the teams met two times each, with Pune winning the first three and Mumbai narrowly clinching the fourth one.
In season 10, the Aslam Inamdar-led Paltan demolished Surinder Singh’s U Mumba 43-32 in the first meeting. An exciting tie was played out in the last match between the two sides, with both teams earning 32 points apiece.
Puneri Paltan vs U Mumba: Head-to-Head record
Matches Played: 22
Puneri Paltan wins: 9
Ties: 3
U Mumba wins: 10
U Mumba have the narrowest of advantages, in the overall head-to-head record between the two sides. The Puneri Paltan have a golden opportunity to level things up for the first time since the beginning when the two sides take the mat on Sunday.
