Rahul Chaudhari played 154 games in PKL and has 1,045 points to his name.

Rahul Chaudhari, ‘Poster Boy’ of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), has always been a name synonymous with electrifying raids and unmatched energy on the Kabaddi mat.

However, his later years in the league were marred by controversies and diminishing opportunities, particularly during his stint in Season 8 under the guidance of former Indian Kabaddi team captain and PKL coach Anup Kumar at Puneri Paltan.

Reflecting on his experience, Rahul Chaudhari, while speaking on the Sagar Sinha Podcast on YouTube, spoke about the treatment he faced during that season, which he believes played a significant role in his declining game time and eventual sidelining in PKL.

On his declining opportunities in PKL

“It is not that I didn’t try to change things back, but the coach has to play a good role in it. In Seasons 6 and 7, I played so well, but suddenly in the 8th season, the coach did not play me,” Rahul Chaudhari said.

On being left out by Anup Kumar in PKL season 8

Rahul Chaudhari recalls how his ouster in Season 8 raised questions about the fairness of the system. The setback came despite his strong performances in prior seasons and his commitment to the sport.

Addressing the issue further, he shared an incident that fueled his determination to prove his worth. “In Season 8, when coach [Anup Kumar] dropped me, I had an interview after my national games where I told that a player is always self-made. You can’t become a player by sending gifts to the coach; you have to play and work hard.”

On how he answered the mistreatment

While many might have been disheartened by such treatment, Rahul Chaudhari used it as motivation. Determined to silence his critics and reaffirm his legacy, he turned his focus to the national stage. “So when that happened, I made up my mind that I would show them who I am. I went and got the national gold and showed them what Rahul Chaudhuri is,” he said with pride.

He joined Jaipur Pink Panthers, where he won his maiden PKL trophy in Season 9. He continued the same in PKL 10 before announcing his retirement after going unsold in the PKL 11 auction.
