Gujarat Giants’ coach, Ram Mehar Singh, opened up on the doping cases of Mohit Nandal and Sonu Jaglan.

Haryana Steelers and Gujarat Giants faced tremendous blows before the PKL season 11 auction when the Steelers released their former captain Mohit Nandal from the season 11 squad. On the other hand, Sonu Jaglan’s name was also on the NADA’s list. Nandal and Jaglan were accused of doping as NADA raised some concerns over the medications he had been administering.

Both these players have been an important part of their respective teams and their release would certainly affect their teams. In a recent interview with Khel Now, Gujarat Giants’ coach, Ram Mehar Singh, talked about his views on doping and what he thinks of the accusations against these players.

When Khel Now asked about his views on the cases as he has been representing the sport for such a long time now. The Gujarat Giants‘ coach replied, “If a player is involved in doping, it is extremely wrong for the sport, and for the upcoming generation, youth, our fans and it gives an extremely ill message about our sport.”

He added, “But if I talk about Sonu, he went through an operation after he got injured in season 8, and at that time he was taking several medicines and injections. So at that time, he administered them for that purpose. While being with me and under my surveillance he never doped. And even Mohit Nandal went through an operation, so see, it happens.”

While talking about the technicalities of how doping test works, he said, “What happens with doping is that one’s score cannot exceed more than 5.6 or something, and if it does then it is considered foul and comes under doping, and then the case runs on you, and they examine what all medications they have administered.”

However, the respected coach also gave his personal views regarding the players as he said, “Otherwise, both of them has undergone major operations, and if they have taken those medications regarding their operation or something else, only the players can tell, but as far as I am concerned, I do not believe that they have doped on purpose, and if they have, it is beyond my knowledge.”

Doping has always been a black spot when it comes to sports around the world. However, the thin line of approved and unapproved medications can be difficult to keep in check after major surgeries that several players go through. The time will make things more clear and let the fans know more about what the reality is. Till then, the players will not be able to contest and will be under the surveillance of the committee.
