Tamil Thalaivas release their star defender Sahil Gulia before PKL 12

Sahil Gulia made his debut with Tamil Thalaivas in season eight.
Tamil Thalaivas former skipper and star defender Sahil Gulia will not be representing the men in yellow in season 12 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 12) as the player and the franchise have decided to end their partnership mutually. This is the first decision made after the appointment of Sanjeev Baliyan as the new Head Coach for the next season.
The franchise announced this on their social media handle and quoted, “Tamil Thalaivas and Sahil Gulia have mutually decided to part ways. We appreciate his time with the team and the moments he gave us on the mat. Wishing him the best for what lies ahead.”
Sahil Gulia made his debut with Thalaivas in season eight and played an important role for the team. He forged an incredible partnership in Sagar Rathee and both corners made life tough for all the opposition Raiders. In his debut season, he played 18 games and scored 30 Tackle points. It was the start of a wonderful relationship.
He continued his good form in Season nine scoring 57 Tackles points which helped Thalaivas make it to the playoffs for the first time in the history of PKL. His contribution to the team increased in Season 10, as he earned 69 tackle points. The left corner finished in the list of top-10 defenders for both seasons.
Apart from handling the defensive duties, the 25-year-old also stepped into the role of a captain when their regular skipper and his corner duo Sagar Rathee were injured. In Season 11, when the squad was marred with Injuries, it was Sahil who led the young side. They started brilliantly as they topped the standings at the end of the third week.
But drop in the form of players meant that the team started losing games and Sahil was benched for the second half of the season. It was Nitesh Kumar who not only took his place but also occupied it as he destroyed most of the raiders who came against him. Nitesh went on to win the Best Defender of the Season award. With new coach Sanjeev Baliyan at the helm, he has started building the team for next season and it will be interesting to see the next steps from Tamil Thalaivas.
