Tamil Thalaivas will lift trophy in PKL 11 says star raider Sachin Tanwar: Exclusive
Tamil Thalaivas made the highest bid of Rs 2.15 crore to include Sachin in their team.
Sachin Tanwar is one of the most highly successful raiders in the history of PKL. He has scored over 950 raid points in his PKL career. Sachin debuted in season 5 and has been a consistent performer since then. In the PKL 11 auction, the Thalaivas made a whopping bid of 2.15 crores to get him in their squad along with another fabulous raider, Narender.
Tamil Thalaivas will be looking to win their first title in PKL and will be expecting a spectacular return by Sachin this season. Moreover, Sachin Tanwar has also been given the role of vice-captain in this season. As Khel Now had a chat with the amazing raider, he opened up about his inclusion in Tamil Thalaivas, his goals, and much more.
Here are some of the excerpts from the interview.
What was going through your mind when you became the most expensive player?
I was extremely happy. I mean, Tamil Thalaivas opted for me and put their faith in me. I felt very blessed that they made such a massive bid on me. I was elated that day.
Is there any extra pressure of being the most expensive player?
No, the pressure hasn’t increased. It is just that I want to give my best for the team, play in the semi-finals, and take us to the finals. A little bit of nervous pressure is all about giving the best. In response to the confidence they have shown in me, I want to give my best performance so far.
What goals going into this season?
My only goal this season is to take my team above the line, take the team to the top, and lift the trophy. I want Tamil Thalaivas to lift the trophy this year.

Playing with Narender Kandola
Narender Kandola is a great player. Even in the last season, he had a great run. We have established good communication now. He will raid from the left and me from the right and our team will do great, Narender also has experience of playing local tournaments before.
Any individual goal other than lifting the trophy for the Thalaivas?
I have reached the finals four times but haven’t lifted the trophy yet. So, this time my goal is to reach the finals and lift the trophy. That’s my only goal.
Do you want to see yourself as the main raider or the secondary one?
It’s pretty clear. Mr. Narender raids from the left side and I do it from the right side, so we both are main raiders. Whoever is having a better day will lead the raids on that particular day. And we are like a family like it’s a team game. I mean, if the seven players aren’t playing united, on that I mean… the seven players have to play with unity. An individual can never win games in kabaddi and if all seven play united, we can play very well.
Can two-star raiders in a team cause chaos?
There’s nothing like that. It is beneficial for us. We have Mr. Narender, also me and we have a good defense as well, so these things do not matter. The goal is clear we want to win. Two main raiders are a benefit to our team. The opponents will be under pressure, and we have two raiders who can extract points at any point in time. Above that, we attack from different sides as well.
Fan base of Tamil Thalaivas
I feel very happy to be associated with Tamil Thalaivas and the fans of our team support us loyally. When we win or even when we commit mistakes in games, they always support us, and we benefit from that.
Training status in the Tamil Thalaivas camp
We have our fitness session in the morning and mat practice in the evening. There are two hours of fitness in the morning and two and a half hours of mat practice in the evening.
Any message for the fans?
I want to say that keep supporting our team. We will not disappoint you and this year the trophy will be ours.
