UP Yoddhas kicked off PKL 11 with a narrow win over Dabang Delhi.

UP Yoddhas joined the Pro Kabaddi League in the fifth season after the league announced the addition of four more franchises to the tournament. The four franchises were Haryana Steelers, UP Yoddhas, Gujarat Giants, and Tamil Thalaivas. UP Yoddhas are owned by GMR Group and are based in Lucknow. The team has achieved the unique feat of playing in all but one season’s knockout stages in their history. The only season they did not qualify was the last season when they finished 11th.

Bengaluru Bulls are one of the eight franchises to feature in all seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League. The Randhir Singh Sehrawat-coached side finished as the champion of the sixth edition. They also have a runners-up finish in the second season and three third-place finishes, making them one of the most consistent and successful teams in the league. However, they also, like UP Yoddhas, had a poor season 10 campaign.

The two sides have played each other only once in a knockout game. The two faced off against each other in Eliminator 1 of the seventh edition of the Pro Kabaddi League. Pawan Sehrawat helped the Bulls secure a win in the first-ever playoff tiebreaker in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League. The Hi-Flyer scored 20 raid points in the game with two raids reaping him four points each. Rishank Devadiga scored 11 points for the Yoddhas in the game.

In the league stage, the rivalry between the two teams has seen Bengaluru Bulls often coming out on top. However, it hasn’t been a one-sided affair, especially in recent years. In the four games played between the two sides in the last two seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League, three finished with the two teams separated by just three points or less. Both have won two games each in the said duration.

Pardeep Narwal represented the Yoddhas during the last three seasons and helped them overcome the huge deficit the Bulls had established earlier on in the Pro Kabaddi League rivalry. However, the Dubki King switched sides after the Bulls bought him in the auction and the Yoddhas refrained from using their right-to-match card on the raider. The Jasveer Singh-coached side instead stole all-rounder Bharat Hooda from the Bulls after the player struggled due to injuries last season.

UP Yoddhas vs Bengaluru Bulls: Head-to-Head

Matches: 15

Bengaluru Bulls: 9

UP Yoddhas: 6

Tie: 0

While the two teams have gone toe-to-toe against each other in the recent past, the Bulls had the bigger victories, both by margins and by importance so far in the rivalry. Jasveer Singh and co would hope to turn the tides after forming what could be seen as one of the most balanced squads in Pro Kabaddi League Season 11.
