UPKL: Lucknow Lions beat Noida Ninjas to become first team to qualify for playoffs
The Lucknow Lions maintained their perfect start to the campaign.
Another fantastic day full of kabaddi action from the inaugural UP Kabaddi League (UPKL) ended on 19 July 2024. Friday saw four matches and lots of memorable moments to take away from the results. The teams are finding the next gear in their performances which is treating the fans with jaw-dropping action on the kabaddi mat.
Lucknow Lions were at the centre of attention once again as they secured their ninth win in a row. From strong tackling to lighting raiding, there was everything in store for the fans of the 2024 UPKL.
Here is a look at the four 2024 UPKL matches that took place on 19 July 2024 and how they unfolded:
UPKL Match 33: Noida Ninjas 29 – 51 Lucknow Lions
Noida Ninjas were demolished by an inform Lucknow Lions courtesy of a 29-51 scoreline at the Noida Indoor Stadium in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Amit Nagar scored eight points for the Ninjas while Shubham Kumar scored 15 for the Lions.
This was the ninth consecutive win for the Lucknow Lions. They have won every single match since the start of the 2024 UPKL season and look unstoppable. It will take a magical performance to better them. They also became the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
UPKL Match 34: Kashi Kings 33 – 32 Yamuna Yodhas
Kashi Kings and Yamuna Yodhas played a magnificent contest on 19 July 2024 which ended by a 33-32 scoreline. Sushant Chaudhary and Uday Dabas both scored 10 points for the Kings. As for the Yodhas, Vinay scored the most points (14) in a losing cause.
This was Kashi Kings’ fourth win in a row. It takes them up to fourth place in the league standings and momentum ahead of the business end.
UPKL Match 35: Brij Stars 44 – 39 Ganga Kings of Mirzapur
Brij Stars got the better of Ganga Kings of Mirzapur by a 44-39 scoreline. Vishal Chaudhary recorded 11 points to help the Stars win whereas Akash Nain’s 14 points tally for the Kings of Mirzapur went in vain.
Brij Stars recorded their second successive win in the 2024 UPKL which gives them a positive outlook going into forthcoming matches.
UPKL Match 36: Sangam Challengers 36 – 31 Awadh Ramdoots
Sangam Challengers consolidated their second place on the league table with a 36-31 win over the Awadh Ramdoots. Abhijeet Malik scored 11 points for the Challengers, emerging as the best performer for the winners. On the other hand, Abhishek Singh with 11 points was the best performing individual for the Ramdoots.
While both teams performed equally well in defence, it was the superior raid points total that saw Sangam Challengers secure the win. Now, they sit in second place with 31 points after winning their second successive match at the 2024 UP Kabaddi League.
