AKFI reschedules 71st Senior Women's Kabaddi Nationals; know dates here

The International Kabaddi Federation suspended AKFI in September 2024.
The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) has rescheduled the 71st Senior Women’s Nationals to February 15-18, 2025, in Haryana. This adjustment places the event just days before the Senior Asian Kabaddi Championship in Iran, set for February 20-25, 2025.
India’s women’s team, a four-time gold medalist in the Asian Championship, faces a tight schedule due to this change. They last won the gold medal in 2017.
Supreme Court of India clears AKFI for Asian Kabaddi Championship 2025
In a related development, the Supreme Court of India has intervened to ensure the national team’s participation in the upcoming Asian Championship. On February 6, 2025, the Court directed Justice (Retd.) S.P. Garg, the appointed administrator of AKFI, will transfer control to the federation’s elected governing body by February 11, 2025. This decision aims to facilitate the necessary preparations for the international competition.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Court that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had engaged in discussions with the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) and Justice Garg. Following these discussions, the IKF agreed to reinstate AKFI’s affiliation, ensuring that the Indian team can compete in the Asian Championship.
The Supreme Court emphasized that this transfer of authority is an interim measure to guarantee player participation and does not constitute formal recognition of the elected body. The Court also acknowledged Justice Garg’s efforts in promoting transparency and effective management within AKFI during his tenure as administrator.
As the national team prepares for back-to-back tournaments, the rescheduling of the Senior Women’s National Championship underscores the importance of effective governance and timely decision-making in Indian sports administration.
