Chris Hemsworth reveals he wants to have an MMA fight

Chris Hemsworth has voiced his opinion on a real MMA match
Marvel and Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth is entertaining a grounded challenge, stepping into an MMA cage.
The 42-year-old Australian actor, globally recognised for portraying Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently admitted that part of him would love to test himself in a real mixed martial arts bout.
Hemsworth has long been known for his intense training routines. Across a 24-year acting career, he has undergone dramatic physical transformations, bulking up or leaning down depending on the demands of each role.
His imposing build and dedication to combat-style conditioning make the idea of an MMA appearance less far-fetched than it initially sounds.
A lifelong fight fan with elite inspirations
Chris Hemsworth is currently promoting his new thriller Crime 101, starring alongside Oscar winner Halle Berry. During a video interview with Complex, the conversation shifted toward MMA, a subject Berry knows well after starring in the 2020 MMA film Bruised.
The film notably featured a cameo from current UFC women’s pound-for-pound No. 1 and flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko. As Berry spoke about her passion for combat sports, Hemsworth revealed he shares the enthusiasm.
“George St-Pierre, I love,” Hemsworth said when asked about his favourite fighters.
“Because he’s one of the all time greats, but seems like a gentleman with an intelligent soul as well. Alexander Volkanovski, [too], Australian, and a good friend of mine.”
St-Pierre is widely regarded as one of the greatest champions in UFC history, having recorded 13 title defences during his decorated career. Volkanovski, meanwhile, currently reigns as UFC featherweight champion after reclaiming and defending his belt in recent months.
‘A part of me wants to though’ – Chris Hemsworth
When asked who would make a suitable opponent, Hemsworth responded with characteristic humour.
“One of the ones who retired a long time ago,” he joked. “I can just run away from them until they get tired and [motions a punch].”
Despite the laughter, his curiosity about competition sounded genuine.
“No, I wouldn’t put myself in the ring, but a part of me wants to though actually having said that,” he admitted. “I mean, I’ve trained a lot and sparred a lot over the years, but within the realm of not killing each other.”
He added, “I’d love to just one day go, ‘Right, what have I gotten here?’ I’d probably end up flat on my back, starry-eyed.”
While there are no concrete plans for Chris Hemsworth to pursue a sanctioned fight, his comments highlight a competitive streak beneath the Hollywood polish. For now, the cage remains hypothetical but the intrigue is real.
Has Chris Hemsworth ever competed in MMA?
No. While he has trained and sparred extensively, he has never fought in a professional or amateur MMA bout.
Which fighters did Hemsworth mention as favourites?
He named UFC legend George St-Pierre and current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Is Hemsworth seriously planning an MMA fight?
There are no confirmed plans. He described the idea as something a “part of me wants to” explore, but acknowledged he would likely “end up flat on my back.”
