World Fencing Championships 2023: Updated Schedule, fixtures, results and live streaming details
Olympian Bhavani Devi will lead the 24-member Indian contingent in the event.
The World Fencing Championships 2023 is scheduled to take place from July 22 to 30 in Milan, Italy. A total of 24 Indian fencers across three events are set to take part in the Championships, which offers ranking points for Paris Olympic Games 2024. The individual events run from July 22 to 27, while the team events will be held from July 27 to 30.
Tokyo Olympian Bhavani Devi, who is the only Indian to qualify for the Olympics, will spearhead the Indian contingent. She recently added one more trophy to the cabinet by claiming the bronze medal at Asian Fencing Championships and in the process reached WR-28 in the FIE rankings in Sabre section. On her run to the semis, she defeated world number one Misaki Emura, but lost a close encounter in the following round (14-15).
In the men's section youngster Karan Gurjar Singh has shown good signs in the international circuit and is currently training in Orleans under Christian Bauer who is regarded as one of the best coaches in the fencing circuit. Alongside Karan, Sunil Kumar in the Epee showed good signs in the Asian Championships last month.
