Tokyo Olympian Nethra Kumanan will spearhead India’s challenge in the event.

The Sailing World Championships 2023 is scheduled to be held from August 10 to 20 in The Haque, Netherlands. Tokyo Olympian Nethra Kumanan will spearhead the Indian contingent at the Worlds besides Vishnu Saravanan and duo Varun Thakkar/KC Ganapathy. More than 1000 sailors are set to take part in the sixth edition of the competition which serves a qualification for Paris Games 2024.

The tournament was first held in 2003 and since has been held every four years barring – 2014 and 2023. The current edition is going to offer Olympic quotas in ten events – kite (men and women), windsurfing (men and women), dinghy (men, women and mixed), skiff (men and women), and mixed multihull. All the four sailors who took part in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 have made it to the squad.

The last major event the Indian sailors took part was the Olympics test event in France. There weren’t any notable performances at the event.
