An on-set injury forces a recasting

Amazon Prime Video’s highly anticipated video game adaptation, God of War live-action series, is reportedly doing a major recast for Kratos. The lead actor, Ryan Hurst, has unfortunately suffered a serious injury while filming.

According to new reports from Deadline, Ryan will not play Kratos and the production is moving forward by recasting the character. Let’s check out more details in this article.

God of War live-action Kratos got injured during a stunt performance

The reports from DEADLINE indicate that Ryan Hurst has suffered a torn bicep while performing a stunt on set in late June.

This injury required surgery and the actor is currently recovering. This recovery from the injury can take several months. The full recovery of physical strength is expected to take close to a year.

There is no doubt that Kratos requires quite a physical demand and the production has decided that waiting for Ryan’s recovery will only delay the production more.

Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios reportedly decided to recast the role of Kratos, so the production can remain on schedule. The production will restart in October 2026.

Conclusion

God of War is currently shooting in Vancouver with showrunner Ronald D. Moore and Prime Video has been looking to shoot two seasons in a row.

Sources said that four episodes were fully finished before the disaster. For the completed episodes, however, Kratos being the main character and Atreus being played by young actor Callum Vinson, the episodes will be re-shot with the new actor when production resumes.

As per the latest plans, the setup will start again in August and shooting will start in October.

Ryan Hurst reportedly suffered a torn bicep while filming, requiring surgery and a lengthy recovery that conflicted with the production schedule.

Is the God of War live-action series delayed?
