The event will place from October 26 to November 9.
The National Games 2023 is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 9 in the picturesque state of Goa. Goa Olympic Association earned the hosting rights following the conclusion of the 2022 National Games in Surat on October 13, 2022. The state was originally slated to host the 36th edition of the Games, but due to the unforeseen challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the event had to be relocated to Gujarat.
With its origins deeply rooted in the Olympic movement, the National Games started as the Indian Olympic Games, aimed at promoting Olympic sports across the nation. This endeavor took shape in the 1920s when the Olympic movement was gaining momentum in India.
The journey reached a significant milestone with the launch of the ninth edition of the Indian Olympic Games in Lahore, undivided Punjab, in 1924. Over the years, this sporting event evolved into the National Games, offering a platform for athletes from different states to compete in a variety of sports disciplines. Today, the National Games stand as a symbol of sporting excellence and unity in diversity, celebrating India's rich sporting heritage.
