East Bengal register thumping win over underwhelming Pathachakra

Jobby Justin scored a brace in the Red and Gold's emphatic win.

East Bengal today started proceedings in a very important fixture against Pathachakra FC at home. The Red and Golds have fallen off the cliff with their goalless draw against Calcutta Customs and they were eager to make a mark against Pathachakra from the start. The desperation was obvious from the starting lineup as Subhas Bhowmick included Mahmoud Amnah from the start for the first time in CFL.

The home team started dominating right from the go and kept on putting pressure on the Pathachakra defence. Mahmoud Amnah's pressence in the midfield changed the dimension of play. Forward Jobby Justin was also included in the starting lineup in place Bali Gagandeep who last disappointing night against Customs. The Kerala born forward was desperate to make a mark as the legacy club started to trouble the Pathachakra defence.

East Bengal's regular attack from the start was rewarded finally when Brandon's pinpoint cross from the left flank found Jobby unmarked in the box. The forward's thumping header gave East Bengal an early lead in the 16th minute.

Most of the attack from the home team came from the left flank as Chullova and Brandon paired up and were causing all sorts of trouble for the minnows. East Bengal could have doubled the lead when Brandon's cross found Lalrindika Ralte, but the former North east United man sent it wide over the bar.

East Bengal were a completely different side today as Amnah has controlled the midfield and Brandon and Lalrindika have used their pace to create chances in the final third. The Red and Golds finally doubled their lead in 40th minute when Jobby's volley caught Montosh Chakladar's arm as the referee pointed towards the spot. Lalrindika Ralte stepped up and made to mistake in scoring from the spot.

Pathachakra merely managed to reach East Bengal's penalty area and Remco Boerre's men had a pretty underwhelming first half. east Bengal on the other hand have learnt from their mistake against Customs and are looking hungry to score more goals in the second half.

Although the play opened up in the second half,East Bengal had most of the clear cut chances and the main orchestrator again wa Mahmoud Amnah. Pathachakra's best chance came when they gt a freekick just outside the box, but Croatian forward Ante Pejic's shot went wide over the bar.

The Red and Golds also had a golden opportunity to increase the lead in the 64th minute when the got a freekick just outside the box but star midfielder Amnah's shot went agonishingly wide off the post. Both Pejic and Nakamura have hardly had any impact in the game as the midfield battle was dominated by East Bengal.

East Bengal's regular attacks again bore fruit for them as Laldanmawia's blistering run down the right wing caught Pathachakra defence off-guard. Goalkeeper Arindam Ghosh untimely run out of his line allowed Laldanmawia to square it toward Jobby. The forward calmly slotted it into the open net giving East Bengal an handsome 3-0 lead.

The Red and Golds have made a positive comeback after a disappointing night against Customs. The legacy club have now registered their second win and have 7 points from 3 matches as they sit in second position in the table behind arch rivals Mohun Bagan.
