Sergio Ramos hails Luis Enrique's philosophy and winning mentality

The Real Madrid skipper scored a panenka to win his side the game against Norway.

Ramos has hailed former Blaugrana and current Spain national team coach Luis Enrique for the impact he has had on the La Roja. The comments come after the Spanish side won their opening fixture of the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

Spain beat Norway 2-1 in the first qualifiers game of the two nations courtesy of goals from Rodrigo Moreno and the captain, Sergio Ramos. Josh King scored the only goal for the Norway side.

Spain is in a transition phase after some of their biggest names have left the side following three disastrous international tournaments. The team is with a new coach and some new faces, particularly in the midfield.

Ramos hailed La Roja manager Enrique for the wonderful philosophy that the former Blaugrana coach has and for bringing the winning mentality to the team.

"You always have the dream and the goal of achieving something important," Ramos said to TVE .

"We are in a new dynamic of working with a coach who has a wonderful philosophy of play, then we will see match by match. Winning will make us feel more confident. A new road starts and what better way than to start winning against an opponent that has made it complicated despite the fact that we had the ball? We knew it was going to hurt," stated Ramos.

Luis Enrique didn't shy away from acknowledging the appreciations from the man who has scored in five consecutive games for his side now. Enrique said he was confident about the Real Madrid captain's penalty taking abilities after Ramos scored the winner for his team with yet another panenka.

"Sergio Ramos is a unique player in the history of world football," the Spain coach said to Teledeporte.

"A player with that personality, I know he's going to shoot well."

It wasn't all good for the Spain's captain and the coach in the game. The game which saw them dominate, have a lion's share of possession of the ball and come close to scoring so many times were troubled throughout by the resolute Norway defence, their goalkeeper and the counter-attacking gameplay. But what would have concerned them the most is the injury-scare of Ramos.

Ramos had a head bang in the dying minutes of the game. The defender when questioned about it, said that he doesn't feel the discomfort yet.

"Now I feel well," Ramos added. "I suppose the inconvenience of the blow will come later." 

Spain next faces Malta in the Euro 2020 qualifiers on Tuesday.
