EXCLUSIVE: Title odds for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 Revealed
Brazil are the favourites to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup; India are placed second from bottom in the odds
With the FIFA U-17 World Cup now on our doorstep the think-tanks of the respective teams have their tools of the trade (strategies) close their chest. However, the bookies have come out with their odds for the world of betting. They are very clear that Brazil is the team which would come triumphant in this 17th edition of the championship, with the hosts India down in the second last position in this 24-team contest which kicks off tomorrow.
However, there is not much noise in the betting world in our country, as it is not cricket, but, there are some who are in for some fast money through this mega event, which is being held for the first time in India.
“It has drawn some attention, since it is World Cup there are some punters, the followers of this game have shown some interest. If it was cricket, things would be different, but I feel that some people have shown some interest which is a good sign for the game ,"said one of the bookies, who is of the opinion that going by the football standards at youth level, Brazil stands a chance to hit the jackpot. Making it to the last 16 is what many of the punters are looking forward to. “There is some money from a few takers who are ardent followers of this beautiful game,” he added.
"Brazil are the favourites, but I have placed some money on India,"said one of the punters who is of the opinion that the hosts will make it to the last 16 at least. After all this is a World Cup and I am sure everyone in the country would want India to be among the last 16.”

With less 24 hours to go off for kickoff, there have just been a few crore rupees in the bookies' kitty and most of them are gunning for India who are placed at Rs 67 for every tenner against USA who are favourites to win the match at Rs 1.35 for tenner.
People from Gujarat, Mumbai and some parts of North India have shown some interest but I think that the exchange of money in Indian currency would not exceed more than Rs 200 crore in the tournament.
In this biennial international men's youth football championship, the 24 teams have been divided into six groups of four and top two teams will make it to the round of 16 knock-out games, in the contest to be held across six cities in the country. However, the championship will be minus Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands and Belgium. But, with the presence of Spain, England and Germany the contest looks better.
More than the monetry aspect, there are other things to look forward to in the contest as our young turks will rub shoulders with some of the best in the world at senior level day-in-day-out. In this U-17 World Cup, there are few young guns, who could take the tournament by storm and increase their already burgeoning reputation, in the likes of England winger Jadon Sancho who was bought by the German giants Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City. He was impressive at the Euro Under-17 Championships, where he was named the Golden Player of the tournament. USA striker Josh Sargent, has played crucial role in helping his team qualify for the tournament in India. Jann-Fiete Arp created Bundesliga history recently when he became the first player to be born in the 21st century and play in the top tier of the German football league are some of the players who would give the spectators some reasons to cheer about.
