The Golden Eagles are now at third position with 14 points. On the other hand, The Red Machines are at fifth place with 13 points.

Dempo Sports Club and Churchill Brothers played out a goalless draw, in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Churchill had drawn their last match against Sporting Clube de Goa, while Dempo had to face a shocking defeat against Guardian Angel SC in the last match.

The match was restricted to the midfield play in the first quarter which ended with a swift attack from the Red Machines when Gilbert Oliveira made a through pass to Cavin Soares in the box but the defender’s sparkling shot missed the target by a whisker. A few minutes later, Churchill came with another attack as this time Nicholas Fernandes sent a long ball to Cyrus Noronha in the box where Dempo keeper intercepted but failed to collect the ball, however, their defender Naveen Mendes cleared the danger on time with a sliding effort.

Dempo took 31 minutes to create their 1st potent chance of the match when Jessel Carneiro went for the glory from just inside the box but his powerful strike missed the target by hairline distance. Five minutes later, Dempo had another chance to take the lead when Jessel came with a perfect cross to Jessel in the box but his goalbound shot was brilliantly tipped by Churchill keeper Kunzang Bhutia.

On crossing over, Churchill were the first to come close to scoring as Chesterpaul Lyngdoh was in the best position to take his side into the lead but his goalbound shot was brilliantly blocked by Dempo defender Mathew Gonsalves.

Churchill newly signed striker Anthony Wolfe should have taken his side into the lead at the hour mark when he was fed by skipper Nicholas with a superb through pass but the striker’s tap-in was divingly pushed for a corner by Dempo keeper Tyson Caiado.

At the other end, substitute Yogesh Kadam had a chance to put his side ahead as Suraj Hadkonkar sent a cross at the far post but the winger failed to keep his shot on target from point-blank range.

Two minutes later, Dempo defender Olan Chandran was lucky not to score an own goal when he deflected Gilbert Oliviera’s host in his own goal but custodian Tyson made a diving effort to clear the danger.

Churchill had the best chance to take the lead in the 71st minutes when Nicholas came with another fine low cross to Wolfe but the Trinidadian striker tap hit the crossbar from the goalmouth.

Dempo should have sealed the match in the added time when Joaquim Abranches made a superb cross to substitute Pedro Gonsalves but the midfielder saw his header went out as the match ended in a goalless draw.
