Jessel Carneiro once again played an influential role in Golden Eagles victory.
Beevan D’Mello and Jaison Vaz scored in the second half as Dempo Sports Club registered an easy 2-0 win over Bardez FC in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
The Striker Beevan D’Mello, Midfielder Velito Cruz and defender Olan Chandran were back in the Dempo’s starting XI who had thumped Panjim Footballers in the last match, whereas Bardez who had gone down to Sporting Clube de Goa by a 5-1 margin in the last match had only one change to their side as defender Mobin Rai was back in the lineup.
Bardez had a chance to stun the opponents in the very 6th minute when Rungsing Muinao found U-20 winger Aniket Agarwadekar in front of the goal but the midfielder shot wide instead of directing it in the net.
A few minutes later, Dempo came with a potent attack as Kirtikesh Gadekar tried to find Beevan in the goalmouth but Baedwz defender Luis Miranda cleared the danger before the striker could do any damage.
They had another great opportunity in the 13th minute when Jessel Carneiro curled the ball to Beevan in the box but the striker could not control his header from close as the ball went over the crossbar for a goal-kick. At the half hour mark, Jessel came with another curler to Beevan in the box but this time, Bardez keeper Royal Basumatory came off his line to keep his side safe with a diving collection.
At the other end, Bardez were unlucky to surge ahead just before the halftime as their skipper Cho Lepcha’s powerful strike from the top of the box rebound off the crossbar as both the teams entered the dressing room with a goalless scoreboard at the halftime.
The Golden Eagles took just two minutes into the second session to open their tally as Joaquim Abranches’ cross was smartly headed to unmarked Beevan in the goalmouth who made a simple tap-in to put his side ahead.

At the hour mark, Dempo coach brought in Jaison Vaz to replace exhausted striker Beevan and the substitute striker proved his calibre in the very next minute as Kirtikesh made a brilliant through pass to Jessel in the box who cut it back to the forward whose tap from close gave no chance to Bardez keeper Royal as Dempo doubled their lead in the 61st minutes.
A few minutes later, Abranches had a chance to put the Golden Eagles on the driver seat when Jessel once again made a brilliant cut back to him but the striker’s shot rebound off the crossbar.
Bardez also had a chance to reduce their margin in the last quarter when their U-20 winger Richard Cardoz curled the ball to Ong Lepcha in the goalmouth but the forward failed to connect from close.

In the other match played at Navelim Football Ground, Sporting Clube de Goa managed to register a hard-fought 1-0 win over Velsao Sports and Cultural Club. Marcus Mascarenhas scored the all-important goal in the 38th minute to book all three points for the Flaming Orange.
