Sporting Goa hammer Bardez FC in Goa Pro League
The Flaming Orange replaced Goan FC in the second place in the table.
Sporting Clube de Goa registered an overpowering 8-1 win over Bardez FC in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Marcus Mascarenhas scored a hattrick, Alesh Sawant and Mauvin Borges registered braces to their names. While Clemente Joseph scored the other goal for the former I-League club.
With this win, the Flaming Orange replaced Goan FC at the second place with 39 points from 17 outings, while Bardez came an inch closer to relegation with just six points from 19 matches.
Sporting gaffer Mateus Costa made several changes to his side following a goalless draw with lower ranked Panjim Footballers as U-20 goalkeeper Akshat Hadkonkar made the debut in the GPL, while Ganesh Thakur, Alesh Sawant, Cajetan Fernandes, Clemente Joseph, Girish Naik, Gautam Dias and Assumption Soares also made into the cut for the Flaming Orange. On the other hand, Barde who had lost to Velsao SCC in the last match had only two changes as their coach Savio D’Souza brought back Rudresh Mandrekar and Carlton Cabral in the starting XI for the former Goa Police Cup winners.
Sporting were the dominant side from the start of the match as they came with several attacks but Bardez keeper Elesh Shirvoikar came with some brilliant saves as he first denied U-20 Stendly Fernandes long ranger. A few minutes later, Sporting winger Girsh went for the glory from just inside the box but his power-pack shot was brilliantly blocked by Bardez custodian. A very next minutes, Ganesh saw his strike from close missed the target by few inches. Whereas, Bardez keeper Elesh was in action again in the 21st minute when he made a brilliant block to deny Gautam’s sparkling shot from the distance.
However, in the 26th minutes, Marcus Mascarenhas gave no chance to Bardez keeper when he brilliantly headed in from close, off Girsh’s perfect cross to put Sporting into the lead.
They had a chance to double their tally in the 39th minute when Marcus found Cajetan in the goalmouth with a header pass but Bardez keeper Elesh once gain came with a superb save to limit the damage. However, he could not hold them for long as Sporting showered a goal rain in the dying minutes of the first half. They doubled their lead in the 44th minutes when Ganesh made a darting run on the left flank and sent a cut back to Clemente in the box who tapped the ball home from point-blank range to make it 2-0 for his side.
It was just two minutes from the goal when, Marcus scored the third goal for his team and second to his personal tally as Assumption’s fine cross was smartly headed in by the striker from close to make it 3-0, while, Alesh put Sporting in the driver seat in the very next minutes with a clinical finish from inside the box as Sporting went into breather with a comfortable 4-goal lead.

On crossing over, Sporting took just five minutes to further inflate their lead as Marcus made a defence-splitting through pass to Alesh in the box whose shot deflect off Bardez defender Shramesh Naik and finished in his own goal for Sporing’s fifth goal.
Bardez replied them with a quick goal as Rudresh brilliantly set up Richard Cardoz with through pass who covered some ground and shot past Sporting keeper Akshat from inside the box to make it 5-1 for his side.

However, in the 76th minute when substitute Akeraj Martins made a brilliant through pass to him in the box. The forward later made a clinical finish from inside the box to make it 6-1 for Sporting.
Just in Sporting midfielder Mauvin Borges also recorded his name on the score sheet in the 79th minutes as he tapped the ball above onrushing Bardez keeper Elesh making it 7-1. Whereas, he scored his second goal in the added time to make it 8-1 for the Flaming Orange.
