With this win Salgaocar remain 4th with 20 points from nine outings, while Panjim have four points from nine matches.

Panjim Footballers faced another defeat as they were trounced 4-0 by Salgaocar FC in the crosstown derby of the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.

Ronaldo Oliveira and Andrus John scored in the first session to put the Greens in the driver seat, while, Saurabh Patel and Rowllin Almeida scored after changing the ends to book all three points for Salgaocar.

Panjim who had conceded nine goals in the last two matches against Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo SC started the match on attacking note as they came with two promising attacks early in the match.

As first, Jaison Fernandes was brilliantly fed by Daryl Costa with a cross from the right flank but the lad saw his right-footer rebound off the crossbar. While another chance went into the vain for the Capital city side in the 18th minutes when Daryl’s powerful shot from inside the box was brilliantly tipped by Salgaocar custodian Jaison D’Mello.

Whereas, Salgaocar who registered their fifth win in the league against Vasco SC in the last match opened their tally in the very next minute from the swift attack when Andrus made a run on the right flank and found unmarked Ronaldo with a cross. The forward later made a simple tap-in to put his side ahead.

It was just five more minutes from the last goal when the Greens extended their lead as this time Andrus who assisted in the first goal shot past Panjim keeper Sherwin Da Cunha from inside the box, off Samuel Costa’s perfect through pass to make it 2-0.

Just before the halftime, Panjim also had two potent chance to put the terms on level but first, rival keeper Jason excellently blocked Lokesh Talwar’s goalbound strike, while, a few minutes later, Chandan Gawas saw his sparkling shot off the rebound blocked by Salgaocar defender Saeessh Halarnkar to keep his side away from any danger. Chandan wasted another chance in the dying minutes of the first half as this time he failed to keep his open header on target off Daryl’s pin-point cross.

Salgaocar took just five minutes after changing the ends to inflate their lead as a perfect cross by Sanson Pereira was smartly slotted in by Saurabh making it 3-0 for his side.

Though the Capital city side conceded three goals in first 50 minutes, they refused to give up and tried to build pressure on the opponents as Joyson Gauncar and Daryl came with fine crosses but their forwards Snedden Rodrigues and Jaison Fernandes failed to capitalise on their chances.

Salgaocar punished them for wasting easy chances and scored their fourth goal in 68th minute when Rollwin’s shot from inside the box deflected off Panjim defender and finished in the back of the nylons.

After taking a comfortable four-goal lead, Salgaocar tried to dominate over the opponents with a possession football as the rest of the match was restricted to the midfield play.
