Mohun Bagan confirm replacement for Diogo Ferreira
The Australian midfielder has previously played in India for one of the Mariners' rivals.
Last week after Mohun Bagan parted ways with their Australian import Diogo Ferreira with mutual consent, talks were on about who would be his replacement for the AFC quota.
The Mariners lost their best midfielder, Yuta Kinowaki, to an injury when he broke his collar bone in the match against Churchill Brothers. The Japanese midfielder who put on an impressive show during the season's first Kolkata Derby will take another three weeks to regain fitness.
On Monday the club announced the signing of Cameron Watson who last played for Bengaluru FC last season and played a pivotal role in the Blues match to the AFC Cup Final. He was versatile in the midfield for Albert Roca but still the Blues management did not retain him for their venture in the ISL making him a free agent.
Diogo Ferreira, who was signed by Bagan on Sanjoy Sen’s choice failed to make any mark since his arrival. He was failing to adjust to the climate of India and thus was not registered for the I-League by the Bagan management.
Infact, Diogo was supposed to be released by Bagan a long time back, when they were playing their pre-season ties against FC Goa and FC Pune City ahead of their start to I-League. But, his agent did not agree to Bagan's proposed compensation as he had a full-season agreement and thus demanding a full compensation for the player which the Mariners officials did not agree to.

Now, with the Australian himself asking for a release and with mutual consent it was easy for the Bagan team management to agree a deal with Watson without wasting any time as Sen wanted a player who has played in Indian conditions recently.
