The Mariners recently won the Calcutta Football League after an eight-year drought.

The rivalry between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan received another twist today, when a few Bengali media outlets circulated reports that the Red and Gold are eyeing a move for Sankarlal Chakraborty, who is the head coach of the Mariners. Although, the club have revealed (via a press release) that those news reports were false.

A Bengali newspaper stated that "Alejandro Menendez wants Sankarlal Chakraborty as assistant!"

The club further stated, "QEBFC and Quess has always been clear about the club’s adherence to ethical practices and would like to reserve the right to take strong legal action against those who are spreading such malicious stories."

Club CEO Sanjit Sen also clarified that "these are concocted stories and fabricated reports, without an iota of truth."

The club further added, "Quess and QEBFC have great faith in (Sanjit) Sen and Alejandro (Menendez) (head coach) as change-makers and would like to put all such false claims to rest."

Sankarlal's tactics and strategy have played a strong part in the club's emergence in the Calcutta Football League and his departure to rivals EBFC could cause a whirlpool of issues.

Mohun Bagan recently won the Calcutta Football League with the competition not yet over. The Mariners finally won the much-coveted title after an eight-year drought, but their celebrations were also marred with controversy.

On Wednesday, during half-time of the championship-deciding game against Calcutta Customs, club president Tutu Bose made a sexist remark which put the outfit in shame. He quipped, "bochor dhore mey hocchilo, hothat ekta chele hoyeche. Kirom lage bhai tomar hole? Sherom lagche." Translated to English, this means 'after eight years of girl child, a male child has finally taken birth in the family.

Although, the club apologised later, but still these words will forever be remembered by members of the outfit's fanbase.
