The Bengal Tigers skipper scored his first goal in Indian football to separate the two bottom half teams.

Defending champions ATK secured their second consecutive- and first home- victory when they edged Delhi Dynamos 1-0 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday. Skipper Robbie Keane’s winner sealed all three points for the hosts as they climbed to the seventh spot in the Hero Indian Super League 2017-18 table, and brought back some composure to their title defence.

Speaking to the media during the post-match press conference was ATK head coach Teddy Sheringham, who was more delighted than relieved at picking up the win. “I would not describe it (the win) as relieved,” he started. “I am delighted with the team’s performance, and also delighted with Keane scoring his first goal. We had to work very hard for the result tonight. I think Delhi is a good team. Someone told me we could have won by a bigger margin, but I am delighted that we won this tough game.”

The former Manchester United striker also picked out Ryan Taylor, lauding his influence and finesse in the midfield. “He (Taylor) has been very good,” Sheringham said. “We lost Carl Baker to injury, and I was very lucky to pick up the phone and call Ryan to come over at the drop of a hat. He could not wait to get over here, and I am delighted with his reaction. He has been fantastic, playing in midfield. He has played at the top level in the Premier League. He knows the game and he has great qualities as well.”

Meanwhile, Delhi Dynamos assistant coach Shakti Chauhan was present from the visitor’s side. As the Lions succumbed to their fifth straight defeat of the season, he wished for a turn of fortunes. “It has been a very difficult situation, having lost so many games back to back. But fortunately, this is a long league,” he said. “However, I don’t want to lose hope. If we win a few games, we will be back again.”
