Indian Player Ratings: Davinder Singh, Jerry Lalrinzuala cream of the crop as Mumbai edge Chennai
(Courtesy : ISL Media)
The tight clash was settled from the spot in the second half.
The Mumbai Football Arena witnessed a high energy crowd and high tempo game as Achille Emana’s strike from the penalty spot was enough to push Mumbai City over the line and get the crucial three points at home to Chennaiyin FC.
Here's how the Indian players fared in the match.
Mumbai City FC
Amrinder Singh- 7.0
Amrinder was almost untested as he was at relative ease in the game. He made the necessary save when needed but otherwise had a quiet evening. He, in spite of not having to feature much, was never complacent and made an excellent save in first half added time minute, off a Mohammad Rafi header.
Mehrajuddin Wadoo- 6.5
Wadoo played well as a central defender, a role he became all too familiar with at erstwhile Mumbai FC. Wadoo made an extremely crucial block when needed and aided the young Davinder Singh in his quest to make a positive impact on the game.

Davinder Singh- 7.5
Davinder, unlike the last time had a very good performance from the start. He attracted a yellow card in the first half which was undeserved, but that just showed his persistence on the field of play where he gave everything he had to offer. He was substituted in the 68th minute by Raju Gaikwad but made five crucial clearances before he went off.
Abinash Ruidas- 6.0
Ruidas made his fair share of clearances throughout the game and showed his mettle. His performances are improving over time and he seems to fit in the vision of manager Alexandre Guimares who’s pragmatic style of play along with Ruidas’ energy and willingness to prove himself has shone through.
Sehnaj Singh- 7.0
Sehnaj was the Brawler-in-Chief in the heart of Mumbai’s midfield and showed why he is the man entrusted with the duty in the middle of the park. However, his passing was questionable at times and he had only 66% passing accuracy. He also commited six fouls and one of them even got him a yellow that was well deserved.
Balwant Singh- 7.0
Mumbai City penalty
Balwant Singh was forced to play as a foil for the striker and did well on the left wing. He glided in with sublime touches and threw the opposition defence into a tizzy. His main contribution came in the second half where he was fouled inside the box by Malison Alves which got his team the winning penalty.
Substitutes
Raju Gaikwad- 5.0
Raju had a decent run after being substituted for Davinder and avoided past mistakes which had relegated him to the bench. His persistence on the field was shown by his consistent positioning on and off the ball.
Sanju Pradhan- NA
Pradhan, who came on for Balwant was only introduced in the 79th minute and made no significant contribution. Although, his defensive as well as well attacking positioning was accurate, he had no major impact on the game.

Chennaiyin FC
Karanjit Singh- 6.0
Hardly tested during the first half besides being forced to make a routine save from time to time. He couldn't do much about Achille Emana's penalty, but otherwise produced a lukewarm performance.
Jerry Lalrinzuala- 8.0
Jerry was instrumental in the silencing of Mumbai's high flying winger, Everton Santos and played a familiar styke to Real Madrid's Marcelo, charging up and down the field and contributing both in attack and defence. For a man so involved in a game with important tackles he committed only one foul in the whole of the 90 mintues.
Dhanapal Ganesh- 4.0
Dhanapal Ganesh was silenced in the midfield by Gerson Vieira and wasn’t able to contribute heavily to the game which led to him being isolated and useless. He wasn’t able to win most of the headers, against a superior Vieira and neither was he able to play as an enforcer. Ganesh was a wasted talent in the heart of the Chennaiyin midfield.
Mohammad Rafi- 4.0
Rafi header
Brilliant in flashes, he was mostly awful. Not being able to win headers, nor being able to strike when needed. Rafi looked wasted in the striker’s role.
Anirudh Thapa- 5.0
The AIFF Elite Academy product was quite influential for the Chennai side. He did his best to win the ball for his team and having a low influence senior alongside him only deteriorated his game. Thapa could have done much better if he was paired with an influential defensive midfielder.
Thoi Singh- 6.0
Thoi Singh miss
Thoi was played in a positon in which he had not previously done well. As a right winger he was wasted due to his lack of crossing ability. But, he did make good runs on the wing and retreated back to defend for his team.
Substitutes
Jeje Lalpekhlua- 4.0
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]Jeje’s performance was neither entertaining nor instrumental. His team looked better without him, but Rafi’s awful game may just give him a thumb’s up for the next match.
